On June 16th at his very own Trump Tower in New York City, Donald Trump announced that he would be running for president. It was only thirty seconds into his speech when Trump committed his first fallacy. In an attempt to insult the intelligence of his fellow GOP candidates, he compared their incompetence toward air conditioners to their supposed inability to beat ISIS. “They didn’t know the air-conditioner didn’t work,” “How are they going to beat ISIS?” This is a bad example fallacy due to his use of an example that fails to prove the conclusion and has little connection to it. Despite the complete lack of relation between Trump’s example and his conclusion, he was still able to provoke the audience into feelings of contempt toward the other…

“If the law requires you to be the agent of injustice, then, I say, break the law” (Henry Thoreau) This famous quote is taken from the famous essay Civil Disobedience written in 1848, Civil Disobedience still stands as an expression of moral and individual conscience against a un just government. Our nation has become visibly divided amongst each other because of Kaepernick's protest during the national anthem. Although I personally believe that he could have chosen another way to protest, he should still be able to speak his mind. Police officers all over the country have "threatened to withhold some of the protection they've traditionally provided football players." The fact that the protection of some of the strongest men in the United States has been lost because of their freedom of speech is absurd. This risks protestors lives everyday because of what thy believe in. Denis Diderot, and writer during the Enlightenment of the 18th century wrote that "It is of the greatest importance to conserve this practice [freedom of the press] in all states founded on liberty." Kaepernick and fellow protestors being crucified for their right to protest against police brutality in America is morally wrong according to the Constitution. Instead, we should help them in the movement to help make our home a much safer place to…

In the article “Seahawks, Titans, Steelers Stay in Locker Rooms during National Anthem as More Players Protest” by Katherine Iam, the author will explain the same thing and also states how Donald Trump kept tweeting about the NFL players that knelt during the national anthem and said that all the players need to be fired and wanted them to get out of the field. I personally believe that standing for the flag should not be mandatory especially in the U.S., because it is known as a country where…

African-Americans have been oppressed since their arrival in America in 1619. Due to their differences in physical characteristics, Whites considered them an inferior race and therefore treated them as property, disregarding their human rights. After many years of exploitation and abuse, in 1791, slaves on the small island of Hispaniola revolted against French rule and successfully gained their freedom in 1804. It gave hope to African American slaves who, in turn, decided to stand against their masters and gain their freedom. Every one of those rebellions was extremely violent. They were so passionate about the cause and have been oppressed for so long that they targeted anyone that was white: men, women and children. In Donn C. Worgs ““Beware of the Frustrated”: The Fantasy and Reality of African American Revolt”, the author examines African Americans’ need to use violence when it comes to revolting against their oppressors. On an opposite note, in “Civil Rights Success and the Politics of Racial Violence”, Joseph E. Luders emphasizes on the positive effects on nonviolent protests. Both authors justify these opposing strategies while making some valid points. This research paper will examine the strong arguments of both Worgs and Luders while attempting to understand how each strategy has individually shaped the mind of African Americans in today’s America.…

Every person has their own political beliefs about how things should work and function in our society. That being said I myself am no different, I believe that our society doesn’t function as well as it could because of some several factors. Since everyone has their own opinion, it can lead to controversy and heated debates. If more people took the time to look at both sides of the story instead of jumping to conclusions, we would have a better grasp on the situation at hand.…
