Amy And Andrea Analysis
Amy and Andrea are similar in two major ways. One of these similarities are their immigrant parents. Amy’s Parents immigrated from China to the United States. As Amy states in “Two Kinds” her mother came to San Francisco in 1949 after losing her mother, father, home, and twin daughters. Andrea’s parents had immigrated to the United States from Bolivia in the 1980’s. The other major similarity is their strict mothers. For example, Amy’s mother wanted her to be a prodigy. At first her mother wanted her to be a Chinese Shirley Temple. As time progressed her mother wanted her to learn how to play piano and made arrangements for Amy to have piano lessons from a Neighbor who was a retired piano teacher, in exchange for cleaning services from her

One difference being their attitude. When Amy disagrees with her mother she is very vocal about it. She speaks her mind. An example would be when her mother told her that she had arranged for Amy to have piano lessons. Amy was upset and said “Why don't you like the way I am?” she continues to say “I'm not a genius! I can't play the piano.” Andrea on the other hand is different. When Andrea disagrees with her mother, she doesn't argue or speak her mind as much. For example, when Andrea wanted to go her friends house. Her mother asked why and Andrea explained that all her other friends are sleeping over. When her mother heard that she said no and when Andrea asked why her mother said “I told you no” and Andrea stated “and just like that my attempt to go to a sleepover would end.” Another of their differences would be their mothers. Their mothers had different intentions in raising them. Amy’s mom just wanted her to try her best. You can tell after Amy had said “I’m not a genius! I can't play the piano!” her mother replies with “Who ask you to be genius” she continues with “only ask you be your best.
