America's Greatest Gifts
America’s Gift to My Generation America is like Shel Silverstein’s “The Giving Tree.” America gives more gifts that anyone can count. Freedom is a wonderful gift that has no limits. No other country has as much diversity as America. Without the people who are willing to sacrifice for their country, my generation wouldn’t be nearly as great. Freedom has always been one of America’s greatest gifts, but it’s especially valuable now. Unlike other countries Americans have the freedom to write about and inform the people of their opinions. On January 6, 1941, Franklin Delano Roosevelt gave his “State of the Union Address,” in which he gave four essential human freedoms that everyone, everywhere must possess: Freedom to worship, freedom of speech, freedom from fear and freedom from want. He states these freedoms to be “a definite basis for a kind of world attainable in our own time and generation.” Roosevelt gives the idea that with these four freedoms, people are able to successfully work together in a civilized society. However, there are many instances today where these important freedoms are being challenged, or withheld from the American people. More specifically, people are being challenged on their freedom to worship, or freedom of religion. Freedom of religion is the…

Only a scare amount of people are destined to be the President of the United States, to be astronauts, to be nominated for a Nobel Peace Prize, or to find a cure for a terminal disease. All of us are capable of significant accomplishments and achievements throughout each of our lives. As Mother Teresa or St. Teresa of Calcutta states this quote, “Not all of us can do great things. But we can do small things with great love,” it signifies extreme importance through society in which people accomplish things rather large or small; love is always present during the accomplishments not matter the size of the achievement. Not everyone is exposed, or afforded, the opportunity to do great things; whether fame, money, or motivation tend to get in the…

Do you know when our national anthem first came to be the official anthem of the United States of America? The anthem was written by Francis Scott Key and became the official American anthem on March 3, 1931. America's gift to my generation is freedom of expression. Freedom of expression means we have the right to express our opinions in many ways. Currently, the professional football players of our nation seem to be using their freedom of expression to, in my opinion, disgrace our country's anthem.…

What is America’s gift to my generation? This is a good question with many possible answers. One might say that America gave their generation freedom of speech. While another might say that America gave their generation freedom of religion. These are both good answers, but I say that America has given my generation so much more than just freedom of speech or religion, and many agree with me.America has given my generation the right to vote regardless of race or gender, the right to have our own personal belongings, the right to protest against something that we believe is wrong. America has given my generation the freedom to own weapons to defend ourselves and the freedom to go wherever we want and be whoever we want. America has given my generation…

To be American it means much more than just Sunday Night Football and relishing fast food. It means that one has certain rights, rights one cannot be deprived of. Being American means one has the right to life, liberty, and pursuit of happiness. One has the right to practice their religion no matter what it is. This allows Americans to live a life without being forced to conform to a single religion. That is part of the reason that each American has a diverse background. Another privilege that Americans have is the right to an education. People in other countries are not given an education causing them to be illiterate. This right allows one to prosper in life when one becomes older. Liberty is the state or condition of people who are able…

America has many outstanding qualities which allow us to have many freedoms. I think that America’s gift to my generation is to get back a strong work ethic and pride. Many people like to play yet expect someone to support them. We need to get back to the ways that my grandparents and great-parents were raised where you had to work hard, do without many times and earn your way through life. They took great pride in their work and always tried to do their best at everything. They either worked hard or did without. They didn’t complain about not having things. If they couldn’t afford them, then they didn’t get them. Whereas, in society today, many people expect things to be given to them without putting forth the hard work. I would like to see…

In modern times we view America as a thriving nation at the top of the power rankings amongst countries. Such supremacy is found not through the weapons of mass destruction but instead in the people living in a free society. The idea of free society can be related to the first amendment found in the constitution which enforces the idea of freedom. The first amendment is vital to functioning of a free society. Justice Robert Johnson once said, “No official can prescribe what can or can not be orthodox.” In other words, no American, despite their rank or command in office, shall be the decider or in charge of the people’s freedom. It is such freedom in which causes American citizens to think in a free society which…
