American Telephone & Telegraph and At+t
AT&T

The AT+T Corporation, formerly known as The American Telephone and
Telegraph Company, was incorporated on March 3, 1885 in New York as a wholly owned subsidiary of The American Bell Telephone Company. Its original purpose was to manage and expand the burgeoning toll (long distance) business of
American Bell and its licensees. It continued as the long distance company until December 30, 1899 when it assumed the business and property of American
Bell and became the parent company of the Bell System. For most of its history, the company functioned as a legally sanctioned, regulated monopoly. No competition was apparent until the 1970's. Since the break up in 1984, AT+T has become the largest telecommunications company in the United States, and a world wide leader in communications services. Its main businesses include long distance services, AT+T Wireless Services, AT+T World Net services, AT+T
Solutions consulting services and the AT+T Universal Card. AT+T has a very strong global presence tha t dates back to 1882 when it opened a plant in
Antwerp ,Belgium. AT+T has approximately 51,000 employees based outside of the
United States.In 1994, International revenues alone were 25 percent. You can see why AT+T has a presence in nearly 100 countries around the world, and does business in about 200 countries. In the last fifteen months AT+T has split into three separate companies. They are AT+T, a global communications company;
Lucent Technologies, a technological company; NCR Corporation, a computer company. The new AT+T is committed to making the most of its leadership position in the dynamic global market for communications and information services. With 2.3 million share owners, AT+T is the most widely held stock in the United States.

AT+T has an Environmental Responsibility and they follow through on it.
They take precautions and do not want to mess up the environment any more than it has already been. AT+T's strong commitment to

    The history of TELUS began with Alberta Government Telephone (AGT) created by the Alberta government in an attempt to acquire and operate Bell Canada operations within the province. Edmonton at the time had their own city owned telephone utiltiy called EdTel that contracted for long distance with AGT. The creation of the TELUS brand was accreditited to in part from the tension developed between the two companies as EdTel sought more revenue from AGT. The name TELUS was first used in 1990, it was the new name for AGT after being privatized by the Alberta government. In 1995, TELUS purchased EdTel completely putting an end to the government owned telecommunications in Alberta. A new iteration of TELUS was formed in 1999 after a merger with BCTel who was the monopoly telecommunications service provider in British Columbia. Althought BCTel was the larger of the two mergers, the regional liminations of the name abriviation "BC" resulted in the company name "TELUS". The name made possible for the firm to appeal on an national and international level.…

    Waking up to the sound of the waves crashing, vendors on the beach are offering fresh cold coconuts; children are playing in the warm, equatorial water. The beach is serene and quiet compared to the wild parties of the night before. The sun is warming; the world is coming alive and the day beginning. You walk a little further and accommodate your route to avoid the build up of smashed bottles in the sand. A homeless man lies ahead of you. A plastic bag washes up on the shore along with a dead blowfish.…

    Key words: Fiber Bragg grating , dispersion compensation, apodization ABSTRACT A wideband chirped fiber Bragg grating (FBG) dispersion compensator operating in C band is designed theoretically by numerically solving the coupled mode equations. The power reflectivity spectrum and dispersion characteristics of the chirped fiber Bragg gratings are analysed. In order to achieve wideband dispersion compensation with a low insertion loss, grating length, average refractive index change, apodization profile and chirp parameter of the grating should be precisely optimized. The chirped FBG designs achieved in this study have resulted in a negative dispersion of 4.95 ps/nm for a grating length of L = 10 mm and a negative dispersion of 9.76 ps/nm for a grating length of L = 20 mm with 16 nm bandwidth at around 1550 nm. recognized as a perfect alternative do DCF. The most significant advantages of chirped FBGs are low insertion loss, nonlinear effects and cost. The idea of dispersion compensation using chirped fiber gratings was firstly proposed by Qulette [4] and later demonstrated experimentally by Williams et.al. [5]. A fiber Bragg grating is a reflective device composed of an optical fiber that contains a modulation of its core refractive index over a certain length. The grating reflects light propagating through the fiber when its wavelength corresponds to the modulation periodicity. In a chirped FBG, the periodicity of the induced index modulation varies along the grating’s length. As the grating period varies along the axis, the different wavelengths are reflected by different portions of the grating and accordingly are delayed by different amounts of time. The net effect is a compression of the input pulse that can be tailored to compensate for the chromatic dispersion accumulated…
