Sports can inspire societal change and can at times unite social classes. England football is observed differently because of socioeconomics. Many people use the word passion to describe how the British enjoy their football. Bloombury-International.com believes the passion for football is due in part because “England is considered the home of football and many people believe that the sport originated in England”(4). Football is embedded in English culture. Many stadium games are sold out and TV ratings at an all time high for football. So much so that even American TV ratings have spiked. It has become a societal problem for their country. At match time it is visible to distinguish between the social classes. During match fixtures the social elite get better boxed seating. Just by observing the field social elite stand out because they dress in their Sunday best, dress shoes and tie. Unlike many middle and lower class citizens who sit in the lower and upper levels with shirts supporting their club. In England racism continues to be a problem. The lower social classes also take part in chants or songs to show support for their own team and sometime chants that poke fun at the opposing team. All of the chanting and singing is done by the lower class and often time chants become profanity against rival fans. Social class divides fans in England. The high elite partake in sports differently that those of the lower stratification. Similar to how American’s partake in sports. Every four years however, the nation of England becomes united. The FIFA World Cup serves as a football tournament pinning nation against nation. Therefore every four years the World Cup has united the English fans as
