American Dreamers Essay

Every person who lives in United States will have a dream, an American Dream, but how are they going to succeed? Some people work so hard but only get half of their dream done, some people might break the law, or even some people do nothing and just become wealthy, living the American dream. Here is some examples that I’m going to tell you about 2 novels that talk about having an American dream, the novella Of Mice and Men, and The Great Gatsby. From the novel, Of Mice and Men, there were 2 guys working on a ranch named George & Lennie. George and Lennie were the brothers from another mother. George always wanted to run a farm, but Lennie was the biggest issue to him. Lennie was a big and “mentally slow” person, but he was a nice guy and he loved petting soft things. George and Lennie used to work in Weed, California. Lennie touched a girl’s dress because he love petting soft things and they almost got into trouble so they moved from Weed to another place. When they worked on a ranch, there was a guy named Curley, son of the owner loved fighting people that were bigger then him. One day when Curley’s wife was trying to find someone to talk to, she found Lennie sitting in a barn alone, and talked to him. Curley’s wife let Lennie touch her hair but when Lennie get too excited, Curley’s wife started to yell at him and wanted Lennie to stop but Lennie was scared. When trying to shut Curley’s wife mouth, he accidentally killed her. After George found that out, Lennie escaped. This incident lead Curley to regroup his workers to find Lennie, and kill him. But George knew exactly where Lennie was hiding. George went to the pond to look for Lennie. When Lennie faced backward, George fired a shot to his head to end his miserable life. In this novel, George always dreamed of having his own farm, but in reality he killed his own best brother, and he didn’t succeed to accomplish his American dream. Now, let’s talk about the novel The Great
