American Dream Discrimination Essay
So do you think people can reach their American dream without being judged by who they are? The answer is yes, and it shows everybody that you are proud to be an American with a dream and you're proud of who you are.Now in the day's people argue what it means to be American and have an American dream they discriminate people for being themselves. An American Dream is when someone wants to achieve or reach a goal to have a better future and life and that they get help and support from their family and friends. For example, my parents, my dad went to college and finished his career in veterinary but my mom she didn't get to finish her career she only got to do two years why? One great example would have to be Harvey Milk! But many people hated him because of his sexuality, he was an openly gay person and during the 70´s many people did not support the LGBT people at that time that being homosexual was a sin because the bible said so, people would call the LGBT ¨FREAKS¨ because of their sexuality. But Harvey wanted to make a difference and show San Francisco that they were the same outside but different on the inside. Harvey was the first openly gay elected official in the history of California, where he was elected to the San Francisco Board of Supervisors. He wanted to show people he wanted to do good in San Francisco but people couldn't stand him because of Harvey's sexuality, he was assassinated 1978 this was because people didn't want a sinner as a supervisor. They didn't treat Harvey with respect while he respected other people's opinion and didn't want to see him succeed with his goal. Till now we still have a problem with equality people still judge and discriminate a person for who they are and we need to make a change in America because that's not right, we are all Americans in some way so we need to treat ourselves with
