Conclusion

Rainforests have been around for thousands of years serving as a vital source for humans, animals, plants, and other organisms. Specifically, the Amazon Rainforest is one of the most essential geographical features because it is the largest rainforest in the world. People mistake the Amazon Rainforest as another wooded area, but the Amazon Rainforest is the biggest provider of oxygen due to its broad vegetation, and it also has a wide variety of species and a constant climate. The Amazon Rainforest is composed of an abundant number of vegetation made up of a wide variety of trees such as, Myrtle, Laurel, Palm, and Acacia, as well as Rosewood, Brazil Nut, and Rubber Tree. In the 20th century, people began settling in the major areas of the Amazon Rainforest (Britannica.com). The Amazon basin in South America, vegetated by tropical rainforest, lies within the equatorial climate zone and covers an area of some 8,235,430 km 2 mainly in Brazil. The Amazon River flows through the basin from its source high in the Andes towards its mouth in the Atlantic Ocean, and is the largest single source of freshwater runoff on Earth, representing 15-20% of global river discharge. At present the amazon rainforest acts as a carbon sink. It absorbs around 35% of the world’s annual carbon dioxide emissions and produces more than 20% of the world’s oxygen. It contains the greatest biodiversity on Earth, providing a habitat for more than half the worlds estimated 10 million species of plants animals and insects.…

Many species of animals live in the Amazon Rain Forest. The rain forest itself, covering nearly 40 percent of South America, contains one in every ten species known on earth (“World’s” 1). Around 500 species of mammals, 475 reptiles, and one third of the world’s birds live in the Amazon. Although they all live in the same general area, animals have different habitats, diets, and life spans. Human beings have exploited the tropical rainforests for many years now for their abundance of resources and their biodiversity. The moist exploited is the Amazon rainforest which has already lost 20% of its area forever. Deforestation is the single biggest threat to the rainforest; the prime cause of it is cattle ranching. This is when land is cleared to provide space for cattle ranchers to herd their livestock to help increase beef production. This activity accounts for 60% of deforestation in Brazil, which is having a major effect on the biodiversity of the ecosystem. The impacts of deforestation are wide. In the Amazon there have been problems with increased forest fires, soil erosion and decreased biodiversity, caused by habitat loss. Subsistence farming is another factor…

The logging companies choose to cut down trees in the Amazon Rainforest because hardwoods are very hard to find and most are in the Amazon Rainforest. Also, there’s so much woods that they need from the forest in order to create the furnitures. Clearing the trees could also help provide clear areas for new housing and villages. Cutting down trees can benefit the world because there is access to other natural resources within the forest. In some rainforest there are iron ore, mineral, or even oil, which can be used for man’s…

In the Amazon Rainforest, new research is being done that has completely changed the way that we now see the Amazon. European accounts from centuries ago, tell of large Amazonian cities all up and down its banks. This idea was thought to be untrue due to finding that the Amazon soils were not actually fertile at all. But, that idea is now being challenged, with the finding of, terra preta. The reason that I decided to choose this topic is because I think it needs much more attention than it is given. Until this class, I had zero knowledge of Native Americans living in the Amazon at all. Therefore, I choose this topic because it has gone through large amounts of change in recent years and deserves more concentration. Lastly, this topic both…
