In some ways, the Casey Anthony trial reveals the way that media influence, including the way it is presented online, affects public perception. When one looks at the pages and information that pop up when one searched for information on the trial, a great deal of attention has been given to the way that certain commentators in the media, like Nancy Grace, tried to focus on the inconsistent and, most would say, deplorable behavior of Anthony and the tragedy of the death itself to draw ratings, but far fewer actually focused on the objective legal facts of the case. Thus, when someone sought to find out about the trial, whether through television outlets or online, quite often they were presented with a sensationalistic view of the case, rather than commentary that revealed the problems that the prosecution had with its case, like the lack of an established motive or cause of death, the very issues that prompted the jury to acquit. However, because these issues, or other very basic legal concepts like reasonable doubt, were not given their proper coverage during the trial, most people were outraged with the verdict and believed that the jury had been made of ignorant people, when in reality, their acquittal seems reasonable in a legal context.…

She also discusses the Student Codes of Conduct (SCC), the development of state schools in Victoria and how SCC supports the notion that bullying behaviour in schools should be dealt with as a part of a school's duty of care to provide a safe and supportive environment.…

The history of the Criminal Justice System goes back to ancient times before the United States was even founded. Back then each colony had its own court system. Americans have developed to enforce the rules of the society and if someone does not follow these rules they will be punished. Today these functions are carried out by the police, the courts, and corrections. During a trial a case continues with the court system which will weigh the evidence to determine if the defendant is guilty. If the person is guilty the corrections system will…

Real life bullying, or traditional bullying, is exactly like our story of Johnny and Billy. It’s a face to face encounter that usually entails physical, verbal and emotional violence that is generally one sided. A warning sign that someone is being bullied, for example, is if Billy came home from school one day with a bloody nose or a black eye. Cyber bullying never involves physical abuse because as the name states, it occurs over the Internet. The common method people use to cyber bully others is anonymously posting things about a person whether it is hurtful words or an embarrassing picture or video. Cyber bullying is especially bad because the recipient of the bullying is exposed to anyone that wants to see it because anyone with an account can view what is going on. In traditional bullying, the bullied is “only” embarrassed in front of the audience that is there to witness it occurring, saying only as if it isn’t bad enough. Therefore, cyber bullying is very embarrassing and arguably worse than traditional bullying. “Once unsavory information is posted, it’s almost impossible to retrieve,” says Bennett. This is sadly the truth; once someone posts something about Billy it is going to be on the Internet forever, and when someone Google searches his name that post is very likely to pop up. Cyber bullying is a very popular because it can be done so anonymously and usually…

In the article by John Cloud, “The Myths of Bullying,” he expresses the exaggeration of the supposed growing “epidemic” of bullying that is spreading across schools. He then begins by presenting two stories that relate to bullies and victims of bullying in their own right. One of which is about a shooting at Chardon High School, Ohio, where 5 students were shot and 3 killed. The other is about a suicide at Rutgers University where the victim was supposedly tormented by his roommate causing him to jump off the G.W. Bridge. Following these events and a couple more, measures have been rushed into place in response to these tragedies--furthering the idea of a growing bullying epidemic. Though, this is most likely an exaggeration as the U.S Department of Justice reported about 37% of students reporting that they do not feel safe at school. However, these figures have remained stable the way they are over the years, supporting the fact that the bullying epidemic is just an exaggeration.…
