Amanda Knox Case Study
Amanda Knox, a 24 year old girl studying abroad in Italy had four years of her life wasted in jail for a crime she didn't commit due to the corrupt actions of the Italian government. The Italian government's dealing with the Amanda Knox case was wrong as evidenced by their shady actions and treatment of Knox. Knox was in Perugia, Italy studying abroad through her Italian studies at the University of Washington. On the night of November 1, 2007 Knox spent the evening with her boyfriend Raffaele Sollecito. When she reached her apartment after hanging out she noticed her apartment seemed a bit off. The front door was left open and she noticed feces in the toilet, something she knew none of her room mates would have done. Then she saw the blood.

First off is the fact that, rather than the military police coming to the residence, the lower level police did. Rather than securing the evidence and not touching anything, they walked around the house and allowed others to come in. This soiled part of the evidence left at the scene which could have stopped Knox from being sent to jail. Another mistake admitted by the main prosecutor of Knox was that they did not take Kercher's temperatre right away. He stated that “Doing so might contaminate the body”(Rolling Stone) at the time. After the fact he admitted that taking a temperature at that time would have allowed them to find a more precise time frame of the murder, and Knox and Sollecito would have had an alibi, they were seen at his apartment at the time. Along with this they didn't have sufficient evidence to find Knox guilty of this crime. There was no evidence found at the scene of the crime of Knox's DNA. What they did find rather was the DNA of Rudy Guede. After they found this DNA of his in bloody finger and footprints the case against Knox should have been terminated, and she should have been freed, but she wasn't. Even after Guede was convicted they didn't let her go, which shows how terrible the Italian government truly is. These factors all contribute to the fact that the Italian government is
