I was very excited in the beginning to do this assignment because of my illness I deal with insomnia issues. I have taken medications for this problem and they were not very effective and the ones that were had so many side effects that I was afraid to take them. So the idea of a natural sleep aid seemed like the idea method of dealing with my sleep problems.
During the first three nights of the sleep study I went to sleep around 11:05 p.m. This time was averaged out from an 11:00 p.m. time on the first day, on the second day I went to sleep at 11:15 p.m. On day three I went to sleep at 11:00 p.m. It took a mean of 18 minutes for me to go to sleep during this three day period before trying the alternate nostril breathing routine. After trying the alternate nostril breathing routine the average time recorded was thirty three minutes. Even though the exercises seem to calm me down from the events of the day, it took me longer to fall asleep. My average waking times was also recorded during this study. I usually wake up around 7:00 a.m. every morning. I get up to help my wife prepare for work and get my son and daughter ready for school. Since this is the summer vacation for the kids, it is not necessary for me to wake up at 7:00 a.m. every morning. However my average wake up time during this three day period was 7:05 a.m. The average wake up time after the alternate nostril breathing routine was 7:00 a.m. The study measured the rate of restfulness during sleep on a scale of 1 to 10. Ten being fully rested and one meaning not rested at all. My scores reflected that I was less rested after doing the routine than I was the three days prior when I had not done the alternate nostril breathing routine. The first three days of the study my rate of restfulness was a 4.3. After trying the breathing routine the average rate of restfulness was 3.3. The mean of sleep time

In the fields of emergency services, sleep patterns while on shift are often irregular. The lack of sleep, or regular sleep, can be a factor in other health problems, and can greatly decrease performance on the job. Interrupted sleep, or sleep fragmentation, is a common occurrence due to the nature of shift work, and the nature of emergency response requests. Shifts can vary in nature, and the two that will be focused on in this project is the “48/96” schedule (48 hours on shift, and 96 hours off shift), and the “Berkley” schedule (24 hours on, 24 hours off, 24 hours on, 24 hours off, 24 hours on, 4 days off). Some departments allow “safety naps” or prophylactic napping on shift during the day to help better rest personnel in preparation for calls throughout the night. This project will determine the effects of sleep fragmentation, and the effects of prophylactic sleeping periods, on personnel from the West Peculiar Fire Protection District (WPFPD) and Miami County Emergency Medical Services (MCEMS).…

I was at work last night trying to figure out what to write about. Working the night shift and trying to jump between day shift and night shift has left me feeling tired. My sleep schedule is erratic. Skimming through the book with this on my mind, I felt the need to learn more about this type of sleep aid. I have never tried them, but they do seem appealing to help with those individuals that have problems inducing sleep.…

Studying my sleep habits this week has been a an eye opener. I learned so much about my body in the last seven days. I learned that I responded better to waking up to an alarm, then someone coming in my room to wake me up. On an average, I got about seven hours of sleep a day. I was able to sleep more on days I did not have to workout for football. A trend I noticed is that I felt better in the morning, if I went to bed before 11:00 pm. Another trend I learned is I fall asleep faster when I took my socks off. I wasn't able to go to sleep due to the lack of comfort of the socks on my feet . I slept a lot better when I turned off the lights and played music. I didn't sleep well with a lot of clothes on. I found myself waking…

"When we first began marketing this product, what was so gratifying, particularly as a physician were the literally thousands of letters and phone calls we would receive talking about how much better people slept at night. Participants interviewed claim to maintain regular sleep schedules with adult members getting 7 hours of hours of sleep each night, and children getting approximately 9 hours per night. Younger children still take daily naps to ensure emotional well-being. The mother denies the use of sleep aids, but the father does require their use at times. He travels often in his job and the frequent changes in physical location make it hard to get adequate sleep. A risk diagnosis of risk for sleep deprivation, along with an actual diagnosis for sleep pattern disturbance (Weber, 2005, p. 580) is identified in this pattern. A proposed intervention for these diagnosis’ would be to establish a bedtime routine to promote circadian rhythm of the effected…

In my self-directed behavioral change project, I encountered a lot of difficult challenges and obstacles in reaching my ultimate goal: a better night’s sleep. My goals for this behavioral change project were to establish a proper sleep and bedtime regimen, getting a full-night’s rest and ultimately feeling more alert and energetic through the day. My main goals were to improve my sleep cycle/regimen by getting the necessary eight hours of sleep I need every night and waking up in the morning feeling fully rested and not sleepy, tired, or groggy at all. This is what I set out to do and I recorded all the times I went to bed, times I’d fall asleep, times I’d wake up in the middle of the night, and times I’d wake up next morning. I recorded all of my observations and occurrences for two weeks and noticed some positive change in my bed-time pattern. I was able to get the necessary eight hours of sleep every night and felt a difference the next day.…

Through maturity, the fraction of sleep time consumed in slow-wave sleep drops predominantly among men. Furthermore, sleep turns out to be more split. For instance, a report with 2,685 participants who were aged between thirty seven to ninety two years discovered that the standard figure of arousals- alterations to lighter sleep and awakenings- increased from sixteen per hour of sleep for 30-54 year-olds to twenty per hour of sleep for 61-70 year-olds.…

To get the most accurate results for the new sleep aid, researchers will include a randomized controlled trail; a control group and treatment group. This might not be the most practical nor ethical method of researching, but the effects of the sleep aid that is experimented and the validity of the effects. The purpose of random assignment is to observe the results of the two groups, those who took the placebo and those who took the sleep aid, to find the link between the treatment and not the status of the patients. To use random assignment, we must first find patients who are having a hard time falling asleep naturally, not caused by other medical problems. Out of the one thousand patients, half of the group was the control group and the other half was the treatment group.…
