All Summer In A Day Rain Symbolism
Ralph Waldo Emerson once stated, “The only way to have a friend is to be one.” However, some people advise not to be a friend and treat others unfairly. “All Summer in a Day” is a science fiction, short story written by Ray Bradbury. In the story, the sun is about to come out, even though it has been seven years with only rain and no glimpse of the sun. There are some children on Venus, and in Margot’s class she is the only one who wasn’t born on Venus. This causes the others to make fun of her. The other children decide to lock Margot in a closet since she is the only one who believes the sun will be up for a couple of hours. After the children go out in the sun they allow Margot the rejoin them, only now the sun has gone and the rain returns. The symbolism shown in the story of the sun, the rain, and the closet in “All Summer in a Day” exhibits the theme of bullying is cruel and can hurt someone in unpredictable ways.

The rain symbolises depression, the sun symbolises happiness, and the closet symbolizes hopelessness, and loneliness. They all tied to together to make the theme by the rain showing the feelings that Margot had because how the children bullied her. The sun showed how happy everyone was when the rain came out, and how Margot missed the happiness she needed because of being locked in a closet. The closet was the reason why she wouldn’t have happiness, but would be alone until the people who put her in the closet would let her out. The last thing Margot did in the story was come out of the closet, and unforgettably because she was different from the other children she missed the only thing motivating her. This would be the resolution of the story no happy endings in this story, and with happiness literally being covered by depression, how this story would went any other
