All Saints Day Research Paper
All Saints Day fell on a particularly scorching day that year. The towering church, brimming with squirming, sweaty, students had nearly exceeded its capacity. I watched from my seat, squished between two other fifth graders, as the other classes from Sts. Peter and Paul school filed in through the kaleidoscopic stained glass doors. The time had then come for the third graders to enter. On this special feast day, third graders were encouraged to dress as their patron saint which included sporting long black robes, veils, and rosaries. As soon as they stepped foot into the building, they were dripping in sweat. Each child took their assigned seat in standard alphabetical order. They crammed onto the old rickety benches, and properly stood, sat, and kneeled throughout the duration of the mass as they had been taught to do. Although obedient, they looked miserable. As I sat down to listen to the readings, my little sister, a third grader, turned around and looked at me. She was whiter than fresh fallen snow …show more content…
Before I could enter the fifth grade room, my teacher, Mrs. Martin, pulled me aside. She informed me that my sister had overheated in her robe and passed out. She then explained that her consciousness was quickly regained and that she went home with my mom. I felt a wave a relief rush over me. Mrs. Martin started faintly giggling. I was insulted, how could she be laughing in a time like this? She then addressed the baffled look on my face by telling me that when my sister had awakened, she was genuinely flustered. She looked around, confused as to where she was and when the teachers told her what happened, she looked relieved. The then responded by telling them that she thought she died. She followed that statement up with “it would’ve been okay if I had died though, because then maybe God would have confused me with a saint and let me into

It was a chilly day on March 6, 2007. Me and my family were on 495 going to the Holy Cross Hospital with a slight delay of traffic. For some reason, I kept fiddling with my fingers, I was really nervous to see him. We took the exit 31A and we all shifted to the left since it was a sharp turn to the right. My big sister, Maisie, was on my shoulder and we shifted her head fell on my lap. She woke up and asked where we were. “We are almost there Maisie” my Dad said. We stopped at the traffic light and I fiddled with my fingers some more. “Stop fiddling with your fingers!” Maisie whispered to me. In my head, I say “I can’t, he is the first boy of the family, the first! Besides me!” I stopped fiddling and looked at the huge structure in front of me, The Holy Cross Hospital.…

Our Lady of Guadalupe: In legend of Nuestra Se?ora de Guadalupe and in Catholicism we would say Virgin Mary. Our Lady Guadalupe is definitely a part of Raza race history. The Virgin of Guadalupe is literally intertwined with both the History of the Catholic Church in the new world and of Mexico itself. To mention a few events, the great floods of 1629 claimed 30,000 lives and threatened the destruction of the valley of Mexico, until the waters abated when the image was taken in solemn procession from Tepayac to Mexico City. On St. Patrick’s Day I had the pleasure of volunteering in a first grade class at my former elementary school. Each time I go back to the school, it brings back memories that I have not thought of in many years. Elementary school seems like a lifetime ago for me. But, because I had so many good experiences there, I love being able to be a part of the memories that kids today will always have. For example, holidays were always some of the best memories of my time at Lanigan because the teachers always went to such great lengths to make it an enjoyable time for everyone. So, on St. Patrick’s Day naturally almost every kid was wearing green. Some had on green and gold beads, some had green glasses, and one girl even had a pouch of “gold coins”.…

This morning I attended a weekday mass at All Saints Catholic Church. The church itself is relatively large from what I saw. The exterior had many well-tended trees and bushes, with a sign pointing to the office, and a cross about six feet tall out front by a cement walkway which led to the entrance. The building itself was a taupe color with dark brown roofing and glass doors leading at the entrance. As I walked through the glass doors I was not greeted by anyone, so I followed what everyone else was doing. I noticed a holy water font in front of the doors leading directly to the room of worship. I watched as the casually-dressed Parishioners, all aged at least sixty-five years, and mostly white, middle-class women dipped their fingers into the font and then made the sign of the cross, before entering the worship area.…

I arrived at Trinity Church on Sunday between the hours of 11am and 12pm. While I was observing or ‘people watching’ I noticed quite a few people going to and from Trinity Church. Most people were families including mothers, fathers, child or children, while others were just alone. All dressed fairly nicer than the random people walking the streets of New York City. While there were many families I could have observed, I chose one family in particular. The whole family was dressed in what I would describe as their Sunday best. The mother was wearing what seemed to be a turquoise knee-length dress since her big puffy coat was in the way, with black shoes; the father was wearing a black coat and a pair of black slacks and nice shoes, and the little girl I assumed to be their daughter was wearing what appeared as a pink dress or skirt with a pink winter jacket flaunting, white stockings and white shoes. They seemed like a happy family as they walked into the church at approximately 11:10. As I previously mentioned, the family had on their winter coats and jackets. The weather was quite chilly out, the wind making it feel as though it was 30 degrees out. I was sitting there with my winter coat on with a scarf and gloves. Seeming as though it was a Sunday early afternoon, the foot traffic was not too bad, but since mass started at approximately 11:15, many people were making their way into the Trinity Church at this time.…

The phrase bloody sunday is used all across the world on some sundays where people have a unwanted project, or an important dead line the next day. It is the dreaded cram sessions that no one looks forward to. But where did the phrase “bloody sunday” originate from? The first Bloody Sunday took place in Russia 1905. The Russian people worked in horribly unsafe factories, the country entered an unnecessary war and was losing it, and the government was corrupt. When new leadership came into play, one may think that things are bound to get better, but in the case of Russia, things just got worse. So the people of Russia did the only thing they thought would get attention; a peaceful protest where they would make demands to better the Russian…

What is the first thing that goes though your mind when you hear the words Memorial Day? What does it mean to you? What symbolization does it hold in you? Ladies and gentlemen, sadly enough, the true meaning of Memorial Day has been seemingly lost by the majority of Americans today. Many confuse this day for Veterans Day or even Armed Forces Day. Although it is highly appropriate to honor all our veterans, living and dead, and to recognize their immeasurable contributions to our country, this is not the true meaning of Memorial Day. When I asked you what the day means to you…what is symbolized to you, what went through you mind? Did you simply think of it as another federal holiday? A 3-day weekend? The beginning of the 100 days of Summer…a BBQ? Or did you think of a mother…

Saint Peter the Apostle, also known as Simon Peter, Simeon, or Simōn, was one of the Twelve Apostles of Jesus Christ, leaders of the early Christian Great Church. Hippolytus of Rome, a 3rd-century theologian, gave him the title of "Apostle of the Apostles". According to Catholic teaching, Peter was ordained by Jesus in the "Rock of My Church" dialogue in Matthew 16:18. He is traditionally counted as the first Bishop of Rome—or pope—and also by Eastern Christian tradition as the first Patriarch of Antioch. The ancient Christian churches all venerate Peter as a major saint and as the founder of the Church of Antioch and the Roman Church, but differ in their attitudes regarding the authority of his present-day…

“Nallie, this is your Aunt Jelly. Jerro was caught in an accident and he was rushed to Medical City. He’s critical.” My phone fell as I felt numb about what I heard. I swiftly drove to Medical City with tears streaming down my face. When I arrived, I hurriedly went to the Emergency Room and there, I saw Uncle Ford and Aunt Jelly holding each other’s hand, silently crying and praying. I approached them and asked how’s Jerro. But she told me that they didn’t know because the doctor hasn’t came out yet. I sonorously whispered that “I wish all of these is just a nightmare. A terrifying nightmare.” To alleviate the misery, she squeezed my hand and told me, “Everything will be perfectly fine. Jerro is a strong man. We’ll just continue praying for him, okay?” I nodded as a response. After a while, the doctor came out bearing a bad news. He said that Jerro is in a coma and might die eventually if his organs will fail to function normally again. That crushed me, bigtime. That prompted me to ran hastily to the MC Chapel. I was crying so hard while praying when a girl tapped me in the shoulders and handed me a hanky. Seconds passed, she sat down beside me and spoke. “You know what? When I was 9 years old, we consulted a doctor about my condition and he said that I’ll probably die on the following month. When I heard that, the thought of dying so young hit me. Instead of bathing in a river of tears, I prayed always and had my faith grew stronger. And now I’m 12 years old then tomorrow I’ll be a year older. Whatever the doctor said to you is somewhat, a test of faith. It doesn’t matter how good or how wicked you are down here. What matters to Him is that how sincere you are with your faith and trust. Just have a strong faith and don’t forget to trust Him because faith won’t work without trust. Bye unnie?” “Nathalie…

The topic of this Religious Education School Based Assessment is the major festivals in Christianity. Holidays, feasts and fasts are a significant part of Christian religious practice. The feast days celebrate joyous historical events, such as the birth and resurrection of Christ, while the fast days provide a special opportunity to focus on self-reflection, self-discipline, and repentance. Festivals are a part of the natural human desire to celebrate, and so the traditional Christian festivals retain their hold upon our national consciousness, even in families where there is no Christian faith. Part of the task of RE, therefore, is to help pupils distinguish between the Christian heart of a festival and the secular additions (some of them very ancient) which now adhere to it. I hope that the information given in this project will help and educate all those who come in contact with it.…
