All About Hair
Hair is an important factor of Americans in today’s society. Long, short, straight, and course hair it varies depending on the person who wearing it. Many people wonder why black people have course hair. Others wonder why whites have naturally long oily hair. In my paper I plan to discuss the dynamics of different textures of hair.
“Everyone has the same hair structure no matter whose head it’s on.” “All human hair consists of three main layers which include the cuticle, the cortex and the medulla.”(http://nappyme.wordpress.com/hair-facts/) The outer layer of your hair is called the cuticle. The cuticle is designed to protect the inner layers of your hair shaft. Many people compare your cuticles to shingles on a roof. Studies show that cuticles that lay flat against the hair shaft do the best job of providing protection. Many people damage their cuticles and don’t even know it. Cuticles are often damaged by a variety of things such as brushing your hair. Your cuticles can also be damaged by using heat or chemical processing. Cuticles can be damaged by every day elements. Things such as the sun or wind can cause wear and tear on your hair and damage your cuticles as well.
The second layer of hair is called the cortex. The cortex is made up of long proteins that are twisted. Some people say they remind them of a curly telephone cord. The cortex plays an important part of your hair overall feature. The cortex is what determines your hair’s overall strength, elasticity, and color. A damaged cortex can result in split ends. The protective cuticle has been worn away and is now exposing your cortex. Once your cortex is exposed, the hair is damaged beyond repair. Hair isn’tAliving tissue, it doesn’t have the healing properties that your skin does to regenerate itself. Studies show that dealing with damaged hair its best to use varies of products but once your hair is damaged it can never be fixed. Damaged hair will either break on its own. Its best in the
