Household Computer Solutions

My company will be called Household Computer Solutions and will start off consulting, planning and deploying customized computer and networking services. As the company grows I would like to open a store in which I will be able to display some of the many, little known, things you can do with computers through open source software. In addition to this once a week we will hold various classes based on the needs of my client base to assist in making computers easier to use. The company motto is “Making technology work for you.” which we do using open sourced software to keep costs down while.
Currently I provide consulting, maintenance and educational services to clients over the phone, via email, remote connections and home visits. Consulting is what I believe I do best. Assessing someones computer needs is not easy. In most cases people do not even really know what their own needs are. I have found myself quite busy working with the Baby Boomers as they look at generation’s X and Y adaptation of new technology. Nearly nine times out of 10 a new client will be making the switch from a Windows or Mac based system to a Linux based system. This alone will save the client anywhere from one hundred to five hundred dollars per computer. It is also cheaper to build a computer than it is to buy This is because when a manufacturer puts out a new system they have to play the business game to get parts followed by time being put into making the chosen hardware work better with the software the manufacturer has a bulk licensing agreement with with. When building your own system you do have to take some risks. several major components to take into account. These include the Case, the Motherboard, the CPU(Central Processing Unit), RAM(Random Access Memory), Video Card, Audio Card, Power, Inputs and outputs like the mouse, keyboard , need for removable media ports, display, printer and network needs. I insure that all of there come together in a way that is aesthetically pleasing and functionally for your desires. With modern home networking it is possible to to have to manage all your technology from almost any thing with networking capabilities, provided they are able to work together. Over the years I have also found many people who insist on using equipment they have on hand which may have fallen out of date. I have learned to use virtual and emulation software to allow old systems to work with new systems. Thinking about making all these drastic changes can be overwhelming at first for many people. When you use anything for long period of time you get used to things being to develop habits. What is nice is with using the particular operating system I, as well as nearly everyone I have worked with, prefer is that you don’t have to force them into a sudden change. In fact you have the option to use it alongside your current operating system. It can even be run from a USB or CD so it will not make a change to your system. It is even possible to give it a try from the online version where you can take a guided tour and explore it on it’s own. One thing the open source community thrives on is power of customisation. It is easy to change everything around to a way that is easy for you to use the computer, from keyboard shortcuts, custom launchers, or making look and feel like the system you are used to. Once the company advances to having a store I will need to have hire employees to assist me meet the requirements of a business. Many of these positions will depend on the demand of our clients. While it will be easy for me to do classes once a week if the classes catch on I would be able to hire in people to meet the need. As the store builds a client base it will be necessary to hire to help tailor solutions to each persons needs. It would be to our advantage to keep common parts in stock so that our clients can have the one stop shopping experience so many people enjoy. This would open up a stock manager position and cashiers as some portion of the client base will just pick up needed items and do the installation on their own. As need may require I may need to hire people to help with doing repairs. If all goes well and Household Computer begins hiring people management positions will open up. For the company to succeed their will need to be people looking over the employees, the stock, the day to day flow of events and planing for the future. While the skills required to do each individual job will differ, all employees will need to have at least a basic understanding of the three major operating systems and the benefits and drawbacks of each. Employees will need to be able to show tolerance for the uneducated and have good communication skills to assist in instructing clients in the use of their new system. Everyone should know how to build a system and be able to answer questions or know how to find relevant information. The most important thing for me is that everyone I employ should want to help people get the most of of technology even when they go against your advice. The ultimate goal of the company is to provide clients with with the best experience with technology. This includes but is not limited to helping clients find a good computer with an operating system that will suit their needs. Once we have a stable system configured and ready for the clients use the next step is to identify their networking needs. In many cases people would benefit from a home server. With a home server it is possible to maintain access to all files and folders from any device on your home network. Home servers can also also be used for much more than sharing files on the network. A personal favorite of mine is connecting a computer to the T.V. and or surround sound system. From here you can use any other computer or mobile device as a remote. In addition to that having a computer connected to the T.V. allows you to have access to all of the internet right on your T.V. without the need to buy an expensive “smart” T.V. Among the advantages of switching to a Linux based systems is getting support. Linux is able to excel because of the community. In many cases getting support is as easy as typing your problem into google and adding your version on linux. Sometimes it takes more than that and this is where Windows falls short. If searching the internet does not come up with a solution would then need to call up a customer support line and hope that your issue is covered in their documentation, provided you are able to get someone on the phone able to understand you describing the problem. I like to personally help people with issues, but if i am unavailable or unable to fix an issue you have many avenues to explore. There are many people who take pride in helping the operating system thrive. When issues arise users can submit bug fixes directly and have them live in a matter of hours. In addition there are many dedicated people to assist you through internet and phone chats free of cost. There are also services like “Conical” which specialize in supporting end users, whether private home users or large corporations.

I believe most of the general populations are aware of how rapidly technology evolves. I will start by giving a little bit of background into my own computer system. I purchased my Desktop computer system in late October 2008. At the time I was set to begin a journey into the world of higher education and needed a computer that could keep up with me. As I did my research into what was on the market that would fit not only my budget, but the needs I believe I needed. I quickly found I was not interested in anything that was on the market in stores, simply because of the fact all the “new” systems were installed with Windows Vista. That left me with only two choices. I could have a system custom built for what I needed and loaded with Windows XP, or I could take a leap and jump into a Mac Desktop. I continued to research and found it would be more efficient to have a computer system custom built to fit my needs.…

To begin, the cost of a computer can fluctuate from a few hundred dollars, to a few thousand dollars. A Macintosh differs from a PC immediately because a Mac is built for media programs. When purchasing a Macintosh computer, there are only three types of systems. Apple offers the iMac, MacBook, and Mac Pro. Each one of these unique machines is prebuilt and increases the cost of the computer drastically. On the other hand, a PC can be purchased in a variety of ways. For example, shopping online you can buy a $700 desktop computer that will satisfy the average user for a few years. In addition, you can select and purchase expensive parts for a gaming computer. A $1,500 customized Personal Computer can be built to run any advanced game with ease. However, a $3,000 MacBook will not be able to function as well as the customized gaming PC, and may encounter problems. The cost of an Apple MacBook will always be more expensive because they are all prebuilt, unlike most Personal Computers. Self-building your own PC has become the cheapest method of all, and allows for interchangeable parts in the future.…

A patent entitles the inventor of a new product to prevent others from selling, manufacturing, making, marketing or importing the patented product for a limited period of time. This can provide the patent holder with a monopoly position in the market for that product, which allows them to charge a higher price and achieve their expected returns (both tangible and intangible). Pharmaceutical companies used this strategy to maintain their market competitiveness and guarantee the returns on the investment on research and development of their products. The patent law and policy also protect and encourage manufacturing companies to invest in the research and development of new products that ultimately will benefit the end users.…

When I compare my computer system to a state-of-the-art computer system I find that there are several similarities and differences. Both computers have the same make up, although the state of the art system offers more storage and memory capabilities. Cost is also a big difference as state of the art computer systems are much more expensive due to what they can offer. Along with the technology that comes along with a state of the art system, is an ever changing industry. Trying to stay on top could result in loss of pertinent data and a financial burden. I purchased my desktop less than a year ago and it has offered me everything that I needed for school and personal use.…

    How to Build a Computer

    • 5 Pages

Most people believe that building a desktop computer is difficult or complicated, even though that is not really the case. It takes a basic understanding of how to use a screw driver, read manuals, and know a little about basic hardware and software. Building your own computer has its ups and downs. Building a computer one’s self can save money, because then you do not have to pay someone else to do it. Also, when building the computer, you need one hundred percent control over what is inside the computer hardware and software-wise. While building a Personal Computer (PC) is somewhat easy, building a MAC is not because Apple usually controls parts and software too much.…
