I. Introduction

A. Opening Device: Has anyone had one of those hangovers where you don’t remember anything you did the previous night? You just remember that you had tequila the night before? Everyone knows a story involving the famous liquor, but there is more to tequila that everyone should know about besides being liquor that guarantees you a hangover. B. Thesis statement: Today, I will inform you about Tequila. C. Preview of Main Points: In doing p, I will talk about 1) the history of tequila, 2) how it is produced, and 3) about the town of tequila

II. Body

A. Tequila is liquor made from the blue agave plant. It all started with the indigenous people and later influenced by Spanish conquistadores. 1. As explained in the 2013 article Tequila! , The history of tequila dates back to the Pre-Hispanic times when the natives fermented sap from the local maguey plants. The result was a drink called pulque. 2. A few decades later, after the conquest that brought the Spaniards to the new world, the conquistadores began experimenting with agave and developed the Mezcal wine. 3. According to the Los Cabos Magazine editorial, Tequila – A Bit of History, Mezcal wine was often referred to as mescal brandy or agave wine and was finally known as tequila after being named after the town of origin Tequila, Jalisco, Mexico.

B. The production of tequila is a very lengthy process, as said by Rodolfo Jacinto author of How Tequila is made. 1. The process begins by the harvesting the of the agave plants, which take 7-10 years to ripe. The men who harvest the agave, jimadores, use a special knife called CoA totrim the leaves from the piña (core of the agave). 2.     When I hear the word Mexico, images of mouthwatering enchiladas and quesadillas come to mind. And of course, salsa.     In the western area of the U.S, the most common Spanish speakers are Mexican, making their food the most prevalent. This has created a disconnect in the minds of the residents because they automatically assume any Spanish person or Latin food they come across is automatically from Mexico. In reality, Mexican food is uniquely known for its heavy use of spice and the main ingredient in their dishes, is corn. Even the candy is coated in a layer of chili. In an article with detailed facts about Mexico it is stated “Mexican candy is not only a piece of Mexican food, but also a piece of Mexican art. Spain, the country that every other one is supposed to have descended from, would not be seen as typical Spanish food.
