Should School Computer Labs Be Phased Out

Computers are the technology of our future. Computers are being used more and more in today’s society. People use computers at their job for many different reasons. Computers are used at schools to help look up information, to do essay’s and there also is a computer lab to teach students how to use a computer. Computer labs should not be phased out of schools. Computer labs are good for teaching children how to use a computer and how a computer works. A teacher of a computer lab also teaches students how to access different programs on the computer. All of the information a student gets by going to the computer lab at school is very helpful for them. It is teaching the students for the future. The technologies of computers only keep expanding from year to year. Below there are many more details on why we should keep computer labs in the schools. At a young age the students are now learning how to use computers. This has change from the past years. In the past years computers were not even in some people’s homes. In this day and time there is a computer in almost everyone’s home. (US Census Press Releases). The children of today learn early how to use a computer and how to access many different programs that are available for them. They now have so many children games but most of them are educational. So the age a child now days learn to use a computer is four. The learning only expands from here. When a child reaches school age which is usually five they have already had access to a computer. Then when they attend school in kindergarten they usually go to computer lab one day a week and begin to learn more and more about a computer and they learn more and more about the many different programs. When a child reaches an age where they have to look up information on the computer for a project or an essay they now know how to do so because it has been taught to them at an early age. Also students may have to type up a paper and turn it in instead of writing the paper. The student will know how to access a program to begin typing. This helps benefit the students and it even helps to benefit teachers when you are doing an assignment. If we did not have computer labs there would not be any experience for the future. Computers are so important in today’s society. Computer labs may be expensive for a school to have but it’s important for every student to learn how to use a computer. In the jobs we have today most of the time there is some type of computer that one has to use. One may have to use a computer to clock in to work, one may have to use a computer to ring people up when they purchase merchandise, one may have to use a computer to enter information, one may use a computer to keep track of different things, one may use a computer to check e-mails for the company they work for. They are many different uses of a computer at work in today’s society. To even get a job one may have to fill out an application on a computer. When you reach the higher levels of computer classes this is when they teach a student how to access Microsoft Word and Microsoft PowerPoint. This is also where they start teaching a student about how to fill out a computer application. There are many different things a computer lab teaches a student to help better their future with technology. The only reason that people think computer labs should be phased out is because they are so

expensive to have at school. A computer lab probably has to have at least twenty computers

because that is usually how many students that is in a class. Since computer labs are used for

activities instead of having computers in a classroom. In today’s society there should be two

computers in a classroom for student use also allowing a computer lab one day a week. There is

always extra time to go to a computer lab to do research or to type up a paper. A student can go

before school, after school and during their lunch period. So this should not be a reason not to

have computer labs in schools. Some people only think that computer labs can be used at a

timely base. (Introduction to the Foundations of American Education) That is not true.

There are many things a teacher uses his or her computer for threw out the day at school. The different reasons are a teacher uses a computer is one to take attendance, second is to post grades, third is they may keep the daily lesson plan on their computer, fourth they may have a presentation to show. In today’s society a computer is used at school for both the student and the teachers. Most of the time computers are used for the employees at a job as well. Could you imagine what life would be like without technology? People would be so lost. If we did not have internet for our computers. They couldn’t check their e-mail; they maybe even could not do their job at work. People today would be so lost if we did not have the technologies that we are use to having. Could you imagine a person not having a cell phone? There are many things a cell phone is used for in today’s society. Texting, getting on the internet, navigation and many others. A satellite is also a type of technology that we have today. People also would be lost without the different TV. Shows they watch. (Life without Technology/PC Mech) All of the technologies that we have today all relate to a computer. A computer is what programs these systems. Computers are a big part of today’s society.

Overall Computer Labs should be allowed to stay in schools. Computers are our future. We use them for pretty much everything that we do from school to work. The more our students of today learn about computers the better off they will be in the future. Technology plays a big part in our life today so the younger a child learns about technology the smarter they will be when new technology comes out. When a child learns about technology at a young age and they keep learning about it threw school the smarter they will be. The more they know the more they will be able to access. This all comes from the teacher at school who teaches the computer lab. By doing some research on this topic I have found that computers should stay in schools to help better the students of the future. I mean a teacher even shows a student how to do a job application. Jobs are important when you reach an adult and are trying to make a living for yourself. You need money to have a home and food. By learning all the different ways to use a computer and the different programs throughout your life is very useful. So I believe computer labs should remain in schools.

The teaching profession has rights and responsibilities much like any other profession. Keeping in mind that obtaining a teachers license is a privilege not a right, and maintaining that privilege is up to the teacher. One way to do this is to become aware of the necessary conditions to become employed and to keep that employment. This will include what rights you have under your contract as a teacher with tenure or if you are still working to that goal. Knowing that just because you have tenure and have more stability in your position as a teacher there are still things that can be considered a firing offense. Become informed on the specific rules for bargaining and the right to strike in your area. Above all else the main responsibility for any teacher is to maintain a safe environment for their students to not only learn but grow as individuals.…

Next, I feel that the computers overcome interactive speaking time with the students and teachers throughout each school day. I also think that students wouldn’t form quite the relationship with teachers as they would without the computers. It seems that the learning would come more from the MacBook rather than the teacher. With that, when you have a teacher simply informing you on what section of what chapter to read, or what assignment to do online, it is almost pointless to be paying them to be there. In my opinion, conversations and debates throughout the classroom are very important. It teaches students to be able to control themselves and listen and understand what the other students have to say and to be able to figure out how to persuade others that their…

Technology helps students learn while they are at school. It helps students research topics and answer questions, even my school made the decision to adopt iPads as a new learning resource. Using technology to learn makes it much more enjoyable to do some of the most boring work. More and more schools are using technology as learning equipment to make learning more enjoyable and so much easier.…

Our students are growing up in a society that is technology based. It is our responsibility as teachers to make sure that our students are getting the best education they can get by infusing traditional learning with technology and making learning interesting. It is important that as teachers we are making sure that our students are prepared for their future, by making them proficient in reading, writing, and mathematics. If schools provided state-of-the-art technology for each classroom this could make things a lot easier to achieve. The more students learn about technology in the earlier grades, the better prepared they will be for a higher level of education as well as life in general.…

Since they have been introduced to society, computers have been incorporated into almost every aspect of daily life. Almost every workplace is run by a computer network, transactions at stores and restaurants are done using a computer, cars have computers incorporated into to them to help them run smoothly, and people have even taking in using computers for recreation. Lately, these computers have started to be used in the classroom, replacing the tradition of books, pencils and papers with personal computers. Some people think that this is a great idea, while others are still a little sceptical of the idea that the use of computers has benefits. In “Tech and content TEAM UP,” a mostly informative article in the February edition of District Administration Magazine, Michael Gagne talks about…

As described in the definition by the Oxford Dictionary a computer is an electronic device which is capable of receiving information (data) in a particular form and of performing a sequence of operations in accordance with a predetermined but variable set of procedural instructions (program) to produce a result in the form of information or signals. (Oxford Dictionary) A device which has been developed as technology has advanced and society has embraced to make most tasks easier. We have incorporated computers into our everyday lives. Whether it be the telephone, washing machine or television to gaming systems, IPods, personal computers, laptops and tablets. Society is continually evolving to embrace computers. Computers are used in schools for the same specific functions as in society for the school to operate effectively and efficiently. Computers need to be used in the class rooms from k-12 for students so they can teach (students) the future leaders and citizens of society, using current and emerging technologies so that these students will be comfortable using future technologies. After reading many sources over the past week about the use of technology in schools my point of view on this topic is that technology is a good thing that should be used in all classrooms around the world. I think that technology is a good thing to use in classrooms because students can you the laptops or tablets that the school gave to them to check their grades digitally and turn in their assignments. The technology that the students use in school can prepare them for the future jobs that will heavily depend on technology as new technologies are being made and implemented in many of today’s jobs. The last reason why i think that technology should be used in all classrooms around the world because technology makes the classroom a much more…

    Laptops in Class

The essay “Laptops in the Classroom? No Problem” by Elena Choy, states that banning laptops in the classroom in not the answer. I agree with Choy because with laptops in a classroom, students can access the internet and this is a great tool for research and also a means of communication by using tools like chats, e-mails and forums. With the arrival of the internet we were confronted with new possibilities, challenges and uncertainties in the process of learning and teaching. How can students and teachers adapt to a learning process involving a technology that is becoming increasingly sophisticated, and more challenging? For me, teaching, in a broad context, is to select and organize information in order to transform it into knowledge. Laptops can facilitate individual and group research as well as the exchange of ideas between teachers, their colleagues and their students. Using laptops to access the internet provides students with an exchange of experiences, questions, materials, personal exchanges, both of whom are geographically near and far. Laptops can help teachers to better prepare their class by expanding the ways to teach, to modify the evaluation process and communication with students and colleagues.…

There is no rule saying that computer programs are better teaching tools than traditional methods. If you decide on new technology in your classroom, it is important to monitor students to determine if they are making expected progress. In other words, new technology should lead to a better learning environment and a more efficient classroom. Take this situation for example: when I was a junior high school student, there was a computer lab, shared by all students. At the time, though, we did not have access to new technology as it was yet to be invented. Of course, we were able to learn enough to see where things were headed in the near future.…

For learners to be successful in life, they need to rely on themselves. This applies also to the use of the internet, learners at young ages-in primary level, need to be taught how to think and do things for themselves. They should be able to use their brains for their assignments. Being able to do this gives them the tools for becoming successful in life. Computer literacy should be taught at secondary level, when learners are critical thinkers and can do the thinking for themselves. At this stage, they will be able to merge their thinking with the information from the internet, making them have assignments that are fed with lots of…
