Advertising
Have you ever seen an advert and thought " i want that product"? Well I have, and this sudden urge can only be blamed on adverts. We see them all the time, for example: when watching a TV Show, the average person will come across 5 advertisement breaks. These breaks each contain around 3 advertisements each, this would mean that every 30 minutes, we see 15 adverts. Advertising is all about making money by introducing and encouraging people to buy new products or use services. The more adverts a TV show has, depends on the viewer numbers of the show (more viewers more ads). Whether it is good or bad to have so many advertisements is what this essay is going to evaluate.

First off, advertising is good because it tells us about new products. It gives us an insight, almost like a movie trailer, as to what the product is going to be like. Us as humans love anything and everything that is new. We see a new product and we want it and since we cannot go shopping everyday, the television, newspaper and radio gives us this information about new products that we so badly thrive on. People will also be willing to buy anything that their favorite celebrity is seen advertising. For example, die hard Michael Phelps fans will go and buy Head and Shoulder's shampoo if he is seen on the front of it. When seen from this perspective, advertising is helpful because both buyers and sellers have their own benefits. Buyers can bask in the pleasure of all the attention they're getting from their new item and manufacturers can show off to their friends about how much they're making every month. People thrive off people. For example, everybody stopped buying Herbal Essence's shampoo, slowly the company would stop producing shampoo, putting the company out of business.

However, some people find they are being cheated when advertising urges them to buy things they really do not need. With modern technique, there are many counterfeit and bad products. Adverts are made only to

Advertising is a deeply pervasive part of all lives lived in consumerist economies. The average individual in Western society is bombarded with several hundred adverts per day -- billboards, TV commercials, film trailers and product placement in films, Internet ads, radio blurbs, newspaper and magazine ads, and more. Advertising both is a kind or popular culture, and it is a major way that we learn about and learn how to interpret other kinds of popular culture. Film trailers, for instance, not only seek to sell their cinematic product, but they also hope to shape the way we think about the movie. Advertising is a major mode of socialization, telling us how to think and feel (what's hip, what's sexy, what's normal), and what problems we need to worry about (lack of the latest e-gadget, insufficiently white teeth, mammary magnitude, etc.).…
