Do you agree or disagree with the following statement: If parents want their children to do well at school, they should limit the time their children spend on watching TV.

With the rapid development of our society, there are an increasing numbers of people who are concerned about whether parents should restrict the amount of time their children spend on watching TV. Some people assert that the watching TV could stimulate children’s learning and creativities and it would not cause any harm to children, yet it’s not surprising that others have opposite attitudes toward this controversial issue. Despite many diverse opinions aired by different people based on their personal stance, there can be no doubt that watching too much TV programs would lead to adverse effects on children.

The first reason I want to put forward is that there are too many inappropriate images and violent content on TV and those programs would impact children and teens negatively. For instance, students may consider that violence is acceptable behavior to solve their problems in school. In this way, misbehaving students undoubtedly would interfere with their peer’s learning and add additional stresses on teachers. Studies also show that children who watch too much TV programs would become more aggressive and violent, and perform poorly in study. As you can see, parents should prevent their children from wasting too much time on TV owing to students may imitate the unsuitable behavior on TV.

Another reason worth mentioning is that students who spend most of their time on watching TV would result in their reluctance toward school works and outdoor activities. Watching animated cartoons and fascinating movies is the most crucial part of their daily life and children from those indulgent families don’t want to put effort into their studies which is less attractive to them. In order to prevent children from being coach potatoes, parents should reduce their child’s access to TV and encourage

The first reason why people shouldn’t watch very much television is because the content of many TV programs is not educational. Nowadays, we can see movies and shows that present scenes of violence, sex, and drugs. This can not be what we want our children to see. It sends the wrong message among the audience that is viewing the movie or show. For children it is worse because they grow up with the idea of a world where women must be skinny and blonde to stand out, where problems can only be solved with money and violence, and where wars are inevitable.…

•TV exposes your kid to negative influences, and promotes negative behavior. TV shows and commercials usually show violence, alcohol, drug use and sex in a positive light. The mind of your kid is like clay. It forms early impressions on what it sees, and these early impressions determine how he sees the world and affect his grown-up behavior. For instance, twenty years of research has shown that children who are more exposed to media violence behave more aggressively as kids and when they are older. They are taught by TV that violence is the way to resolve conflict – as when a TV hero beats up a bad guy to subdue him.…

Good morning year 10 health class, today I am going to discuss the topic of if watching TV should be banned for children. I am against this notion. There are many reasons why I think television shouldn’t be banned for children. My first reason is that watching educational TV programs can help your child develop skills such as reading and spelling; it also provides a wide range of general information. It is proven that children who watch educational TV shows are most likely to do better in school than children who don’t. Statistics show that children who watched television shows such as Sesame Street in the 90’s academically did better in school. Television programs such as play school and again Sesame Street, heavily promote reading books at a younger age. It is also shown that when children watch television shows they want to be like or act like the character they are watching on the screen, they become interested in this character and want to know and learn more about them.…
