In this literacy narrative, Blogs Are Not Pseudo-Diaries by Stacy Yi, Stacy talks about her experiences writing about her time spent in the Dominican Republic the summer after she graduated high school. The thesis statement of this narrative is “Far more interesting, though, was my hands-on education in the possibilities of travel journalism, and the freedom that comes with disregarding expectations.” Stacy talks about how there were lots of people who wanted to be kept up to date with her experiences while she was in the Dominican so she set up a blog where she could easily do so. At first she wrote mainly about how she was enjoying her time, posted some pictures, and wrote about missing home, the things she thought she should be writing about. Things she thought people wanted to read about. Stacy began to grow bored with what she was writing and the views on her posts were dwindling, she could tell her readers were becoming bored as well. Soon she stopped posting all together, she thought it was pointless. One day, she had a conversation with the oldest daughter of her host family and she knew she wanted to write about her and Stacy decided to post it. She started posting about local soccer games, restaurant reviews, disagreements she had with members of the family, things she really liked to write about. She felt better about the things she was writing, she felt satisfied. Stacy felt that writing day to day posts would provide a lot of information but not capture the feel of her trip to the Dominican. She felt that to make a good record of her trip she needed to write about things were relevant to her trip and in ways that fir the experiences she had.…

This semester, in the English 100 class that I have taken, I realize I have learned a lot more than I originally thought. In my efforts of writing this paper, flipping through my different notes, I really have learned how to write better papers. I learned how to use a web-log, also referred to as a blog. I had never posted on a blog and I didn’t even know what one was. It is very interesting to me that our English classes were able to read each others postings and writings on the blog we used for our homework and also comment on other peoples work. And, that anybody on the world-wide web can also read and comment on our writings. I have also learned about the difference between “academic” writing and non-academic writing. These are different…

Throughout reading the article on “Studies Explore Whether the Internet Makes Students Better Writers” by Josh Keller, there are a few points to pick up on. The first point being made is that some scholars say that students no a days have a more enhanced skill for writing. In other cases some are saying, by using online blogs and/or tweeting can cause a student to form bad writing habits and become less efficient in a classroom setting. A second point that’s made in the article is, people who are using the outside of school social web are being more persistent within their writing. People are always communicating using writing, whether it be emailing, tweeting, or blogging, the web demands people to write. Another point that comes up is seeing how people write online. From seeing that it can guide a student to see how other write and they can pick up on that to help further improve their own writing skills, however some scholars again believe you should learn it from a classroom setting. The last point that was made was when people write about things they strongly believe in or even about themselves, they have more meaning and they are forced to be aware of what they are saying because a larger audience is viewing what is being said. When students write papers for school they are more focused on the topic they’re writing about and the audience is a lot smaller. Everyone has different view on how we learn or should be taught, but the internet does have a lot to offer people now and it can really help us become better in many aspects of…

Everyday, blogs are becoming more and more popular. The reason for this is that blogs are easy to use; they can be updated every day. For example, at any time, writing can be posted where ever there is an active internet connection (which is at most places these days). In addition, readers can interact with, and relate to the writer via the blog on a daily basis. This allows for a strong connection to form between the reader and the writer. Also, blogs are becoming more popular because several blogs review new products, which allows for consumers to read these reviews, before purchasing a new product. Overall, blogs are increasing in popularity day by day, for they are easy to use, allow readers to interact with writers, and provide new product reviews for consumers.…
