Adoption
Have you ever imagined what life would be like if you were raised by someone

who was mediocre at everything they did in life? My biological mom has nearly 15

children and has either given them up or had them removed from her care. I was lucky

enough to be raised in a loving and financially stable household, where failure is not to

ever be thought of as an option. Although I do often wonder what my life would have

entailed if I had not been adopted. I quickly realized that I would not even be writing this

college admission reflection essay if I were in the care of my “real” mom. I would not be

the strong, intelligent and beautiful person I am today if I was in the care of my “real”

mom. That is when I asked myself what makes a woman a child’s “real” mom?

A brilliant man name Michael Levine once said “Having children makes you no

more a parent than having a piano makes you a pianist.” I felt this was a direct correlation

to my life, and this was truly how I felt about my “real” mom. A “real” mom is going to

always be by your side no matter what happens. She’ll assist you when needed, whether

it’s teaching you how to ride a bike or taking your first step in a pair of heels. The literal

meaning of a mother is: A woman in relation to a child to or children to whom she has

given birth. So if a woman just gives birth to a child or children without any relation, is

she just , an egg donor? When a woman gives birth the estrogen that is released is for that

automatic bond to occur, but can it also be released by first sight? By first touch? I feel

that when my adoptive mom held me we were the exception to the rule; that the estrogen

was released by first sight and touch. From a very young age my family has always told be that I will grow up and do

something meaningful with my life. So my thirst for knowledge and my drive to want to

make something if myself, is all because of what my family

Closed adoptions are adoptions in which the birthparents of the adopted child have no contact with the child after he/she is adopted or with the adoptive parents. No identifying information is provided to the adoptive family or the adopted child. Closed adoptions are controversial because they basically cut off all connections between the child and the birthparents. The child may never know who their birthparents are and they may have many questions that may remain unanswered. Many people think that these situations can cause problems with the child and the birthparents. We plan to show how closed adoptions are beneficial to the adopted child.…

In class Brandy Calef spoke about adoption and the services offered that are specific to the Adoption Centre of Kansas where she is an adoption assistant. Brandy had information pamphlets ready to hand out as well as an example of an entrance packet that would ordinarily be handed out to birth mothers coming to the center for adoption services. She also provided us with business cards including her contact information so that we may contact her for further information or questions. Even today, as I look to my future and think about the different avenues before me, I still openly consider the prospect of adopting a child. As being an adopted child, growing up was confusing and somewhat hurtful. Knowing I was adopted was not the problem; the problem was always being questioned about why I was adopted and how come I did not look like my mother. I had always felt self-conscious about being in public with my family or if my mother ever came into school. I felt ashamed and afraid of what my friends and other peers would say about me. In the end, I realized that I should not care about what other people think because regardless of what happens, I know my mom will always be there for me; and that is why she adopted me. She cared enough about me to go through the long process of being adopted, that she still cares about me today.…

Although adoption has been frowned upon in the past, today is it more widely accepted, but it is still subject to many social stigmas. While adoption does have its cons, the positive impact of adoption outweighs that of the negative ones. Adoption can be one of the most rewarding experiences in a family’s life. It is a family’s commitment to raising a child and giving them a family. Before considering adoption, one should examine the effects it has on the parents and the child, the amount of children in the system, the ability to adopt within the United States or internationally, and open/closed adoptions.…

The word mother is a simple word but has many more different definitions. This could be the legal, social or traditional way of looking at a mother. A legal definition of a mother is such that as the legal dictionary 2012 states ‘a woman who has born a child is deemed a mother’. However this cannot always be the case for some women. As some women cannot bear children so one of the alternative solutions for them is to go down the route of adoption, other stages also such as fostering or even surrogacy. The social way of looking at a mother was mainly confined to mother and child and that the mother…
