Admission Essay For Pharmacy
Having worked at CVS since my junior year in highschool, what started as a part-time summer job quickly evolved into a passion of mine. I knew I wanted to work in the healthcare field and learn more about patient care and medications. As a pharmacy technician, I work closely with pharmacists and provide a supporting yet critical role in running the pharmacy smoothly. In a high volume store that includes people from various socioeconomic statuses, racial backgrounds, and walks of life, I have learned the value of empathy, tolerance, and adaptability. Patient care is something that is heavily emphasized in the pharmacy setting. Pharmacy technicians have a big role in delivering compassionate care to patients and positively impacting their lives. Since most people tend to stay in the same area and see one pharmacy for their needs, I have had the privilege of getting to know my customers and following them throughout their lives. One patient that had a powerful impact on me was an elderly lady; I’ll call her Florence. Florence was a small, frail woman with sad yet kind eyes. As there is typically one person at each station teamwork is especially important in the functioning of a pharmacy. Though this I have learned to be a great communicator and delegator and help balance the strengths and weaknesses of my teammates. In a high volume pharmacy, management skills are pertinent. As a result of this, I have learned to quickly triage and prioritize certain prescriptions based on the nature of the medications and the urgency that the patient needs them. Additionally, the pharmacists I’ve worked with have been great mentors who have allowed me to accompany them while they were counseling patients. This helped me the skills of talking to patients and learn about medication interactions and side
