Title of the Study: Computer addiction when it comes to online games

Purpose of the Study: To provide additional information of the disadvantages if one is addicted to computer games. To be a reference of one of those future researchers and also can be used by many of the students.
The purpose of study is to: 1. Identify the effects of computer addiction. 2. Interview the young people in how they engaged with the computer games. 3. Give the examples of the games where the teenagers become addicted. 4. Identify what makes teenagers addicted. 5. Know what are the risks for the teenagers is.

Significance of the Study This research or study regarding to the computer addiction is made to know what the effects of computer games are for the youths today. Online games are the favourite past times of the teens and even to the children. Therefore, this study will give an advantage on how they will be aware to the consequences.

To the Parents. This study will help them to become conscious of this computer games. Inform their children about the effect of the computer addiction to the mental thinking of one individual.
To the Teenagers. This study will help them to control their addiction on computer games. This study will also make them aware in what will be the bad effects of it.
To the Future Researchers. This study will help them to have more information or an additional reference on their research.

Once they try a computer games, they get an idea on those computer games. Then, they try again and make them excited to play again until they enjoy it and become a computer addict which had a bad effects for them.     Video game addiction has become a major problem in our society. Many children and teenagers play an excessive amount of hours of video games a day that they develop countless problems such as violent behavior, hostility and social isolation. These are but few of many examples of problems young teenagers face when they have gotten to the point of addiction. However, video game addiction is proven to be associated with academic achievements and social skills as well. (Chui et al., 2004). Gaming addicts experience huge fluctuations in behavior as stated by Chin & Wen-Bin (2007). These so called fluctuations in behaviors do not manifest on their own however. Many addicts have actually become hooked on gaming simply because it provides them of a method to escape reality. The notion of escaping reality then becomes a habit, which leads to addiction (Lee & LaRose, 2007). Accordingly, the addict finds himself torn between two worlds: reality and the virtual world. This split is identified to cause behavioral differences such as the fluctuations previously mentioned and certain states of aggressiveness (Chin & Wen-Bin 2007). Video game addiction has in fact become a troublesome concept for many individuals. Though, in order to fully understand this concept, one must define it first: Online games can create a separate and unique world that helps identify the user of his preferences, goals, dislikes, settings, team goals and organizations (Chin & Wen-Bin 2007). As described by Young (1996), the internet itself is not addictive, but the specific applications used to achieve certain goals that benefit the user in some ways. At a social science perspective, video game addiction can lead to troubles in communication and self representation. This could also deeply effect the gamer psychologically.     On December 5, 2009, Mapua Institute of Technology finalized their research named “The effects of Computer Addiction to the Academic Performances of Mapua Institute of Technology First year Students”. It seems like familiar or should I say Same Title but in our research we include Computer Games Addiction and also its effect on academic performance on selected freshmen CCIS students.
