One of the challenges faced by adolescents is the belief they are “not good at math”. This may be imparted by their parents belief they were not good at mathematics and do not ask more from their children. There needs to be a shift from this belief from all adults involved. They must recognize and affirm the importance of mathematical literacy for all. In the Ministry’s Numeracy Report (2004), students need the “ability to deal with the fundamental notions of number and change in order to make sense of mathematical information presented in everyday contexts” (Paulos, 1988, pg.). Mathematical literacy in important for both employment and post-secondary admissions. Therefore, as teachers, we need to take advantage of the abundant opportunities for fostering mathematical literacy across the curriculum. As with Ms. Hastings, has a strong belief in the “Growth Mindset” by setting high expectations and showing student they can learn as opposed to the belief of “either you are good at math or…

Prior to assessing the curriculum for this course I anticipated the course would validate those perceptions and fears in the form of high level formulaic equations, and unfathomable theorems. To the contrary, statistics in part presents as a mechanism for analyzing a small sample of observations or a population in order to make sense of a broader slice of a particular group, population or system through the computation and numerical data. As comically articulated by Standard Deviants’ (n.d)., statistics appears to be more akin to a language test, as opposed to the structure, mythology and outcomes of a traditional math…

Helen is also an example of women's problems caused by men. “You didn’t know I wasn’t mourning Stefanus's death. He was a good man, and it was very sad that he had died so young, but I never loved him.” (pg 71). Helen felt that her marriage was deathly and after Stefanus's death she felt free. Since her husbands death she has lived alone and transformed her home into a work of art creating her own Mecca of beauty and freedom. Outside her house the yard is filled with figures…

The goal of the analysis is to know the content of ascorbic acid (vitamin C) in the three types of fruit juice, A (pineapple juice), B (Orange juice) and C (mango juice). The lower the volume of fruit juice required to decolourise the 2,6-dichlorophenolindophenol (DCPIP) , the higher the content of vitamin c (ascorbic acid) in the labelled juices, A, B and C. The method used to determine the content of vitamin C is by using titration method. From the results, we concluded that the different types of fruit juice of the same brand do contain the same content of vitamin C.…
