Adaptation and Localization: What's the Difference?
Adaptation and Localization. What's the difference?

When it comes to Adaptation. Its story telling shifting from 1 medium to another.
1 example would be Nodame Cantabile. From Manga (Print Medium) it adapted into Live Action (Film Medium) then again in Anime (Animation Medium). Despite the changes in medium. The content from Characters, Plot, Settings stay the same from its original Print Medium just going with a few changes. Not as precise to its original form but close enough when it adapted to Live Action and Anime Medium.

Just like a person going from one place to another, still being the same person, just in a different place.

Localization on the other hand is re-creating an original work to best conform to its local viewers. Thus, Localization takes effect.
1 example is Saban's Mighty Morphin' Power Rangers. From its original form Toei's Kyoryu Sentai Zyuranger.
Characters, Plot and Settings are re-created to conform in local standards for its viewers to easily understand the content.
Adaptation is not the right term to label Power Rangers (or any localized, re-created works ex. Masked Rider, VR Troopers) since it doesn't conform with the technical description of what Adaptation stands for. Its due to the content is changed or in other words altered. Since alteration happened, all other affected parts (directly and indirectly) must be adjusted as well.

Let's watch an interview from 1 of the prominent actors in Japanese Live Action. Mr Kenji Ohba. Who played the roles in Super Sentai (Battle Kenya and Denji Blue), Metal Hero (Space Sheriff Gavan).

Back in 2012. He have an exclusive interview with CS Toys International. According to that interview, here is what he have to say and I quote.

" I feel very honored to be part of Super Sentai series for many roles I have done and now the same series have been localized, re-created and aired in many continues to count the 20th

On one side, you are losing everything that you know, everything that you are as a person. It’s like you’re being stripped clean to start over completely. Everything is being torn away all at the same time and that can be painful to adjust to. However, on the other side of the spectrum, you are growing as a person at an exponential rate trying to keep up with everything going on around you. That is where the magic Rodriguez was talking about comes in. Despite everything, all of the changes, the adaptations you had to make to yourself, you are still you. That’s the whole point. You may have picked up a few new things along the way but ultimately under everything, nothing has truly changed. You are still the same person as before; you have just…

Possums, from populations with exposure to this vegetation, are particularly tolerant to fluoroacetate. However, the level of tolerance varies among the different populations of each species, depending on the degree to which the toxic plants were present in their microhabitat. The brush-tailed possum (T. vulpecula) from Western Australia was found to be nearly 150 times more resistant to fluoroacetate intoxication in vivo than the same species from South Australia. Both possums are capable of de-fluorinating fluoroacetate at similar rates by a glutathione-dependent enzymic mechanism resulting in the formation of free fluoride ion and S-carboxymethylcysteine. Glutathione was also capable of partial protection against the toxic effects of fluoroacetate in vitro by a further unelucidated mechanism.…

They say go with what you know, initially I was going to depict how the military has evolved in how they represent themselves in the media, specifically in recruiting posters ads, and commercials. As I was researching articles I came across some information about the Power Rangers. Honestly, I can’t say I’ve much experience with the show, action figures or the “Mighty Morphin Power Rangers World Tour Live on Stage” performance. Holly cow, stereotype much? The original cast included: Blue Ranger (Caucasian male), Yellow Ranger (Asian female), Green Ranger (Caucasian male), Red Ranger (Caucasian the Pink Ranger (Caucasian female), and Black Ranger (African-American male). Since the series began in 1993 it’s had multiple versions of the storyline but it hasn’t diversified much since as exemplified in various seasons casting. I’m not aware of the story line behind it besides it’s martial arts based…

The Roy Adaptation Model for Nursing had it's beginning with Sister Callista Roy entered the masters program in pediatric nursing at the University of California in Los Angeles in 1964. Dorothy E. Johnson, Roy's advisor and seminar faculty, was speaking at the time on the need to define the goal of nursing as a way of focusing the development of knowledge for practice. During Roy's first seminar in pediatric nursing, she proposed that the goal of nursing was promoting patient adaptation. Johnson encouraged her to develop her concept of adaptation as a framework for nursing, throughout the course of her master's program. Von Vertalanffy's use of systems theory was a key component in the early concept of the model, as was the work of Helson. Helson defined adaptation as the process of responding positively to environmental changes, and then went on to describe three types of stimuli, those being focal, contextual, and residual. Roy made derivations of these concepts for use in describing situations of people in both health and illness. Roy's view of the person as an adaptive system took shape from this early work, with the congnator and regulator being added as the major internal processes of the adapting person.…

It is easy to see oneself as the same person we were ten, twenty, or fifty years ago. We can define identity through our physical presence, life experiences, memories, and mental awareness of self. One can testify our persistence as a person through our existence as a person. But what makes us the same person? In this paper, I will argue for the “simple” view of the persistence of identity – that it is impossible to determine what single thing that makes us the same person over time. I will support my claim with the refutation of the main complex view claims of the body, brain and psychological continuity criterion.…

In 1993, a new live action show for kids, Mighty Morphin’ Power Rangers (MMPR), debuted and its popularity has endured since with its 16th incarnation to air in 2008. The Power Rangers series was based on the long running Super Sentai series of shows that had begun in 1975 and is still in production today. MMPR, the first of the Power Rangers series, was adapted from the 1992 series Kyouryuu Sentai Zyuranger. John Stossel of ABC’s 20/20 reported that “from an adult perspective, it’s an astonishingly stupid show” and that the popularity of Power Rangers was inexplicable. Given this kind of general consensus among adults, what could have prompted Haim Saban to think that an adaptation was viable? Despite the odds, Saban, found a distributor for an adaptation and its ensuing popularity began a fad for other similar imports such as V.R. Troopers and Big Bad Beetleborgs which were also licensed by Saban. While adults may not understand it, Power Rangers have an appeal towards children that is still applicable today.…
