Adam, Eve and Lilith
Adam and Eve and Lilith
The story of Adams first wife, Lilith

It is said that the legend of Lilith was created first in the bible. She was known as Adams first wife who rebelled against him after she couldn’t get equality. However, she is also recognised from Hebrew mysticism, Sumerian legends, as a demon and as a vampire. It is said that she still lives today as she is an immortal demon.
The legend of Lilith began when rabbis first noticed there were 2 accounts of the creation of woman in the book of Genesis that contradict each other. Genesis 1 says God created man and woman at the same time, whereas Genesis 2 says he created woman from man. Although she is not mentioned directly in the bible Lilith is referenced as a screech owl, a night creature. However, she is talked about in some Jewish text and the Dead Sea Scrolls.
Jewish mythology states that Lilith was Adam’s first wife. She was created at the same time and from the same earth as Adam. This caused problems in their relationship. Lilith refused to take a lower position to Adam, since she came from the same place he did. She left Adam and did not return to the Garden of Eden. God sent three angles to retrieve her but she refused to go back. God then created Eve who was equal to Adam. As stated in Genesis 2:21-22 Eve was made of Adam’s rib. “So the Lord God caused man to fall into a deep sleep. While the man slept, the Lord God took out one of the man’s ribs and closed the opening. Then the Lord God made a woman from the rib, and he brought her to man.”
Angered by her replacement, Lilith vowed to weaken and kill all little children, babies and newborns. She was believed to have powers that can only be warded off by the mystical means of an amulet. Over the centuries Lilith has become known as a succubus demon. She was said to have sex with men while they slept, stealing their semen and giving birth to demon offspring. Rabbis warned men never to sleep alone so they won’t fall victim to Lilith.

    Who Is Jezebel

For over two thousand years Jezebel has been known as the bad girl of the bible, the wickedest of all the women. The ancient queen has been denounced as a prophet of false and foreign gods, a witch, prostitute, killer of innocents, and enemy of the one true God. Before her time as queen of Israel, she was raised as a princess in the kingdom of Phoenicia where she grew up as a priestess of Baal, there most powerful god. The story of Baal is a god that dies in spring, and a goddess of love and war mourns. But after an endless summer with drought and famine Baal is resurrected in the fall bringing with him rain and storm. Baal because of his time of resurrection was the god of fall and autumn, rain and therefore the god of melancholia and sorrow. He was the god of storm, the maker of thunder and lightning bolts, and the god of fertility and sex. He was also known as Prince Baal or the rider of the clouds and in the bible he is often called Baalzebub, changed to Beelzebub in the New Testament. He brings with him several goddesses such as Ashera, The Queen of the Sky and Astarte, the lunar goddess symbolized as a star within a circle (often seen in witchcraft today). She also was a goddess of fertility sex, and war, this was not only a sexualized religion, but a violent one to. Slashing and cutting oneself was a part of the religious ceremonies, as was human sacrifices, sometimes even child sacrifices. Jezebels life was formed around such beliefs, and from the day she was born until her death she stayed faithful to her gods. Her background shows that this is all she knew, and in her land to worship these gods was normal.…

Witches were stereotypically women, common belief was that these women would make a diabolical pact with evil demons or satin himself. They would reject Jesus, the holy sacraments, and take part in "the Witch 's Sabbath". At this time, women were sexually insatiable and that Satan seduced them to his cause. Witches were feared and sought after because they had the ability to take away the strength of young men and sometimes went on to kill them. They could also fly at night, communicate with Satan, make men impotent, and hence they struck at the ability of humans to reproduce.…

In the Judeo and the creation stories there are many similarities but are not the same. In the Judeo story there is a man and a woman named Adam and Eve, in the creation story there is a man and woman that are married. Both of these stories are about how the earth was made. Genesis 2.4b-3.24 explains about the creation and describes the Garden of Eden along the events that occur inside such Garden. God plants a garden in Eden, briefly describing the tree of life and the tree of knowledge of good and evil. However this part is focused on the creation of the persons. It explain the creation of Adam, meaning “humankind” in Hebrew. In Genesis 2.23, God puts the man in a deep sleep and from his rib bone make the woman. This may be understood as females come from the male and indicates the possibility of heterosexual attraction between them.…

Stephanie Ericsson in omission she describes it as “telling most of the truth minus one or two key facts whose absence changes the story completely”. To give an example Ericsson talks about a “rabbinical legends tell of another woman in the Garden of Eden before Eve”. Ericsson talks about how the omission of “Sumerian goddess Lilith” which was known as a “female evil” felt to her as a “Spiritual Robbery” and how Adam was “created out of the same mud” as Lilith redefined all Judeo-Christian History. Ericsson explains how Lilith defied Adam’s need to control,…

The story of Adam and Eve is one of the most culturally important and known stories in the Bible regarding the origin of mankind. It’s generally followed by Judeo-Christians but is also grasped by other religious views, though many tend to overlook minor key details that may alter the whole interpretation. First, God created a man named Adam to primarily tend to the garden he planted in Eden. There were many trees in the garden that happened to contain two special types of trees. God allowed Adam to eat from any tree he wished, except from one specific tree. Then, God created a woman to accompany Adam who automatically became his wife. The woman came across a serpent she claimed to have deceived her. In actuality, the serpent simply told her a fact that is later proven correct with the help of her temptation. After Adam and the woman both consumed fruit from the forbidden tree, they realized that they were naked and tried to hide from God. God came to find that Adam and the woman ate from the forbidden tree because they suddenly were full of knowledge. God punished the serpent, Adam, and the woman for their disobedience. He then banished them not as another punishment but to help them avoid temptation again. Within the controversial context of the story lie theoretical themes that can be analyzed by existentialism and the Post-Freudian psychoanalytic theory of eros, thanatos, and the Oedipal Conflict. The story can be viewed using the Oedipal Conflict as God plays the role of both the mother and father figure while Adam and Eve play the role of the rebellious children. Along with this conflict, the characters of the story demonstrate existentialism qualities and carry out actions that they are either eros or thanatos.…

    Nihongi Vs Genesis

In Genesis, the woman is presented in two different ways. The first two chapters of Genesis have different views of how the woman should be perceived, with Chapter 2 creating a definite male authority. Genesis, Chapter 1, professes that God created humankind in his own image as partners. “So God created humankind in his image, in the image of God he created them; male and female he created them” (Ch. 1, 27). Genesis, Chapter 2 delineates the roles of male and female by creating woman from man out of his own rib. “And the rib that the Lord God had taken from the man he made into a woman and brought her to the man…This at last is bone of my bones and flesh of my flesh” (Ch. 2, 23). From this point on the delineation of equality between man and woman is broken and the dominance of male over female is established. In both stories, the women become subservient to the men and both women end up victimized by embarrassment or painful suffering. An example of this, is when Izanagi meets up with Izanami and does not even recognize his own sister and immediately shuts her down when she speaks “I am man, and by right should have spoken first. How is it that contrary to this, you, a women, should have been the first to speak?” (Shinto, 24-26). Izanagi considers it “unlucky” (26) and forces them to circle the…

Pandora is widely recognized in Greek culture to be the first woman created: a parallel to the christian Eve. Her story is that of the innocent-but-curious woman who released everything bad into the world by mistake. As the story goes, Zeus, king of the gods, had become angry with humans and taken fire from them. This left them miserable, cold, unable to eat meat, and quite baffled as to the solution to their problem. One man, Prometheus, was very clever and hatched a plan to steal back fire…

Since, woman did not have a voice it was thought that they were more likely than men to enlist into the devil’s services. Women were not allowed to be minsters so the devil has an open door to come in and target a woman easier. Genesis Gender Roles

Eve commits the very first sin by eating the sacred fruit from the tree of knowledge (Genesis 3:6). This leads to God punishing Eve, and God decrees that a husband will rule over his wife (Genesis 3:16). It also leads to man’s tendency to blame the woman for his own action (Genesis 3 footnotes). This shows why women seem to always be directly or indirectly responsible for the conflict in a story, because they were thought to be the root of all problems, and men were thought to rule over them. Sarah mistreats Hagar and drives her away, Leah and Rachel are shown as envious towards each other and Rachel steals from her father, and Dinah’s mistreatment prompts her brothers to brutally destroy an entire city. Since all these women have a major part in the conflict of the story, the images of the men they associate with appear cleaner.…

It is believed that she was the predecessor of the femme fatale. Femme fatale is defined as a character of mystery and seduction, charming her lovers into compromising, dangerous traps. Lilith seems to setup this archetype, by having being created as an equal to Adam and not wanting to be with him any longer, refusing to be. Instead, choosing to consort with demons and have their offspring rather than Adam’s, despite the fact that they die every day. Her hair plays into this image as well, with representing a lethal charm, enticing a man only to strangle them in webs of her hair.…

In the documentary, I met the Real Eve – the one prehistoric woman who is believed to be the mother of us all, who lives in Africa more than 150,000 years ago, and whose mitochondrial DNA is being passed down from generation to generation, supplying the “chemical energy” to us, humankind. From the documentary, I got to know her better as the Mitochondrial Eve – the most recent common ancestor of all of us humans in the matrilineal (mother to daughter) line of descent. In other words, the Real Eve is the woman from whom all of us living humans today descend, on our mother’s side, and through the mothers of our mothers, and so on, back until all female lineages converge.…
