ACTION RESEARCH PROPOSAL

Title of Research:
TO INCREASE THE KNOWLEDGE IN VOCABULARY IN THE ENGLISH LANGUAGE AMONG YEAR 4 PUPILS

Name of School: SEKOLAH JENIS KEBANGSAAN TAMIL BEKOK, JALAN PEJABAT POS, 86500 BEKOK, JOHOR

1. Reflection of previous teaching and learning

The English language is a very important subject in the KBSR curriculum. The usage of vocabulary among the pupils is very limited. Pupils do not understand the meaning of the words during teaching and learning. The low percentage obtained in the English language for the PKSR tests shows the failure of the usage of vocabulary among the pupils.

During classroom teachings, pupils are found to be unable to converse in good English. It obstructs the teachers to plan an effective teaching and learning activity. Thus, the objective of the lesson cannot be achieved. It also affects the quality of teaching of the English Language teachers.

2. Focus of research

The research aims at overcoming the problems of lack of usage of vocabulary among the Year 4 pupils. It is also hoped that through some methods, the vocabulary usage among the pupils can be upgraded.

3. Objective of research

i. General objective

To upgrade the usage of vocabulary among Year 4 pupils for the English language

ii. Specific objectives

* To increase the pupils’ vocabulary power so that they are able to converse fluently in English

* To enable the pupils to upgrade their writing skills in English

* To help the teachers to plan an effective teaching and learning activity

4. Target group

This research involves 6 Year 4 pupils and one English teacher. The school involved in the research is categorized as a rural school.

5. Action steps

i. Observation of the problem

The unmanageable use of the vocabulary prevents the teachers to carry out an effective teaching and learning for the Year 4 pupils.
