Acne
Embarrassing red bumps all over your body? Acne may be your problem!
No those red bumps all over your face, back, chest and even arms is not chicken pox’s, its acne. Acne is an embarrassing skin disease that affects primarily teenagers and young adults. Three out of 4 teenagers will be diagnosed with acne.1 Acne is very easily diagnosed and can also easily be treated. Although Isotretinoin works well on severe acne, Benzoyl peroxide gel works extremely well for most acne and has very few side effects.
Acne: What is it?
In your skin you have millions of pores that open up to a follicle. In each follicle there is a hair gland and an oil gland. The oil gland produces oil to help remove dead skin and keep your skin soft. Sometimes too much oil is produced which then clogs the pore trapping dirt and bacteria in the pore. This clogged pore then turns into acne. The types of acne are whiteheads, blackheads, and cystic acne.1 Acne is not a life threatening disease but it can cause emotional damage and depending on the severity of the acne it can be painful. If you have acne don’t be worried because there are many therapy’s that are proven to help reduce the amount of acne you have. Two of these therapies are Isotretinoin and benzoyl peroxide gel.
Isotretinoin
Isotretinoin is a vitamin A derivative that is administered orally in pill form. Isotretinoin is a prescribed drug which is prescribed as a last line of defense. It is usually prescribed to patients who have not shown improvements with other drugs. Isotretinoin works by reducing the size of the skins oil glands, reducing the amount of bacteria in the pores, and is an anti-inflammatory drug.2 Treatment is usually 6 months in duration and requires monthly blood tests because Isotretinoin has many severe side effects.
Isotretinoin has been proven to work extremely well in reducing the amount of acne wheatear severe or mild. A clinical trial showed that the use of Isotretinoin significantly reduced the amount
