It may be something simple like a job or a church, but some people are searching for more guidance than what society has to offer such as a cult or an army. Not all armies are bad, but you are given commands almost all day long and constantly. If this army were to get out of control, you would be part of a mindless army of robots just doing what you are told. In The Wave they were all looking for someone to lead them in a certain directions. If Mr. Ross told them to set the school on fire they would have mindlessly done so. Not because they are a bunch of ignorant kids, but because they wanted someone to make the decisions for them. In Fahrenheit 451 no one cared who was making the laws as long as they knew what to do and what to not do. People sometimes need a guidance in their lives, but your whole life should not be controlled by a stranger and his ideas that only benefit his absolute control.
Power and control is needed in everyday life, but there has to be a point where it has gone too far. When a human being loses his uniqueness and his own ideas, this is now officially a dictatorship. Power needs limits or else people lose their security and their human rights. The United States has it lucky considering we have our own rights that protect us and the government from harm.
