Absolute vodka
Absolut Vodka is a brand of vodka, produced near Åhus, Scania, in southern Sweden. Since March 2008, the company has been owned by the French firm Pernod Ricard, having been sold as a part of the V&S Group, which was owned by the Swedish government.
Building on a four century tradition of producing vodka at Åhus, Absolut was introduced in 1879 by the entrepreneur Lars Olsson Smith. Absolut is the third largest brand of alcoholic spirits in the world after Bacardi and Smirnoff, marketed in 126 countries. The largest export market is the United States where close to 73 million litres are sold. More than 40% of the imported vodka in the United States is Absolut.

V&S had to keep in mind various issues that they had to go through before deciding an appropriate brand name and brand image. For the launch in the new target market, US, V&S carried out a thorough market research on the previous ad campaigns for the past ten years. This gave them an idea about the target market segment and their choice of acceptance for the ads related to the industry. They found that most ads were exaggerated and snobbish, featuring people dressed in expensive attire and lavish lifestyles with a small liquor bottle tucked in some corner; where none of those ads were targeted at people below forty. As most of the previous campaigns were targeted at people above forty and were quite serious ads, V&S decided to expand their…

NBB has been a success coming from a basement operation to a national producer of beers and ales. While the company has seen success based on its strengths, there are aspects of its marketing plan that create weaknesses in enhancing the brand. Presently the company markets to an age group of 25-44, which currently limits the target audience. It is more beneficial in the long run for the company to be less restrictive of its target audience; by setting the age at 44 it essentially rejects everyone else. It is better to show customers that all are included than showing exclusion to whom the product is marketed to (Romaniuk,…

Consumer segments play a vital and sometimes surprising role in marketing. Consider the wine industry. The image that likely comes to mind is of an older crowd composed mostly of Baby Boomers. While this image isn’t completely wrong, the demographics of wine consumption have changed dramatically in the last decade. According to the Wine Market Council, under-35 consumers have increased by almost 40% over the last year alone. This means more and more of the consumers who are buying and drinking wine are Millennials—a target segment almost as large as the Boomers and one marketers are already eager to reach. In a society filled with wants and needs, advertisement serves as a persuasive yet informative factor while aiming for an appealing effect on the potential consumer, Advertisement’s influential role on the consumer has provided a reliable resource for successful sales, while simultaneously creating a more competitive environment for opposing companies. For example, Rimmel London and Cover Girl, two extremely successful makeup industries are at constant war in advertising. When selling similar products, such as make up, brands are completely reliant on their advertisement’s approach. In all reality, both products may have the same effect but must rely on their commercial’s “pitch” to sell. If not marketed properly, even the best products can be overshadowed. Despite their widely different approach, both Rimmel London and Cover Girl understand the core elements of successful advertisement.…

When companies need to find their target audiences and find out how they “tick”, that is where the field I work in comes in. We handle finding what is called the “target demographic”, which can be anyone from stay at home moms, to teenagers, to specialty specific physicians (all dependent on the product or service being researched), and pull them in for “Nonexperimental Research Methods” (as described in Module 1.6, page 46).…
