Abraham Lincoln's Goals
Abraham Lincoln isn’t like most presidents that be think of that is rich, famous, and makes small adjustments to the United States to try and make it better. Abraham Lincoln, along with the Northern part of the United States abolished slavery. They wanted slavery get rid of slavery in the United States, but the Southern states didn’t. The Southern half of the United States thought that slavery was nessecary. The North and South tried to adjust the laws in order to try and make slavery better, but there was still slavery in the country. This created arguments about what to do with slavery. Araham Lincoln’s main goal as president was to try and end slavery for good says [gale writers]. Lincoln had tried many times to try and make slavery better, but he realized that there is no way to make slavery better and that the Southern part of the United States wasn’t just going to agree to freeing their slaves. Then Lincoln declared war on the Southern half of the United States. Lincolns claims that the war was to try and keep the United States together and not just to abolish slavery, says [biography.com], so that the North would fight in the war. After the long, harsh war where thousands of people were killed, the North ended up winning the war and in 1862 he issued his preliminary, abolishing slavery with new anti slavery laws being put into place. Abraham Lincoln made one of the biggest decisions he could have made as president says [history.com]. He tried to make slavery better with rules and agreements with the South, but the war was the only solution to ending slavery once and for all. In conclusion, Abraham Lincoln is one of the most remembered presidents. At the time many people didn’t realize that slavery was bad, but today he is remembered and isn’t looked down upon because of the way that we look at slavery today. If slavery was still in the United states today people would be treated very differently, but thanks to Abraham Lincoln there is no slavery in the United States
