On Sunday February 12, 1809 in Haden County, Kentucky Abraham Lincoln was born in a small log cabin to Thomas Lincoln and Nancy Hanks. Abraham Lincoln worked his way from the farm to making one of the biggest changes our nation has ever undergone. He is also one of the most recognized men to ever live and die in office. Even after death Abraham Lincoln was still making changes to the U.S. Constitution. After moving to Knob Creek, a 230-acre farm where his brother Thomas was born and also died only 3 days after birth, Abraham attends a school in a small log school house for a short time. It was not until they met again later that they got married to each other on November 4th, 1842. Abraham and Mary had four children: Edward, Robert Todd, William Wallace, and Thomas. In 1844 Lincoln starts his own law practice after moving his family to Springfield, Illinois. Between 1846 and 1849 Lincoln is elected to the U.S. House of Representatives but then leaves politics to practice law again. When he comes back to politics he is elected to the Illinois legislature but turns this down in hopes of becoming a U.S. Senator. In 1859, Lincoln writes a short autobiography after losing the U.S. Senate seat to Douglas. The Republican Party then nominates Abraham Lincoln, in 1860, to become President of the United …show more content…
On April 14th, 1865 Abraham Lincoln was shot by John Wilkes Booth while attending a play with his wife Mary. He died the next morning at 7:22 am, on April 15th, 1865. It was not until after his death on January 31st, 1865 that the Thirteenth Amendment to the U.S. Constitution passed by Congress abolishing slavery and implementing the biggest change in our nation.
