Abraham Lincoln
Abraham Lincoln was one of the greatest presidents in American history. Born on February 12th, 1809 in Hodgenville, Kentucky he was one of the most important people to lead our country. He has had many great accomplishments throughout his lifetime. If it wasn’t for him some of us wouldn’t have the rights we have today.
Abraham Lincoln was a very intelligent man, even though he only went to school for a few years of his life. He had to teach himself most of the things he knew, such as teaching himself law. And clearly he did a good job at that being that he became the 16th president of the United States of America in 1861.
Now don’t think that all the president thought about was work, work, and work. He also had a family five to take care of at home! He married Mary Todd Lincoln on November 4th, 1842. They had four kids together named Robert, Edward, William, and Thomas.
Abraham Lincoln also led around 3 million northern soldiers to war against the south in the civil war. He was a great leader and he never gave up. Because of how great of a leader this man was the North won the Civil War against the South, making our great nation unite once again.
Just before the civil war was over, Lincoln issued the emancipation proclamation. This freed all slaves in the states that seceded from the union. I think it also caught the hearts of many rebels, helping them see why what they were doing was wrong. That was a huge factor in winning the war for the north.
Now everyone should know that slavery was a huge problem in America. People would take African citizens from their homes and force them to work in America for slave owners. It was horrible up until January 31st, 1865 when Abraham Lincoln got Congress to pass the 13th amendment of the United States of America. This amendment ended slavery in America. It also saved millions of slave’s lives. Freeing millions of slaves was one of his greatest accomplishments. Just this one
