Abraham Lincoln
Abraham Lincoln was one of the greatest presidents in American history. Born on February 12th, 1809 in Hodgenville, Kentucky he was one of the most important people to lead our country. He has had many great accomplishments throughout his lifetime. If it wasn’t for him some of us wouldn’t have the rights we have today.

Abraham Lincoln was a very intelligent man, even though he only went to school for a few years of his life. He had to teach himself most of the things he knew, such as teaching himself law. And clearly he did a good job at that being that he became the 16th president of the United States of America in 1861.

Now don’t think that all the president thought about was work, work, and work. He also had a family five to take care of at home! He married Mary Todd Lincoln on November 4th, 1842. They had four kids together named Robert, Edward, William, and Thomas.

Abraham Lincoln also led around 3 million northern soldiers to war against the south in the civil war. He was a great leader and he never gave up. Because of how great of a leader this man was the North won the Civil War against the South, making our great nation unite once again.
Just before the civil war was over, Lincoln issued the emancipation proclamation. This freed all slaves in the states that seceded from the union. I think it also caught the hearts of many rebels, helping them see why what they were doing was wrong. That was a huge factor in winning the war for the north.

Now everyone should know that slavery was a huge problem in America. People would take African citizens from their homes and force them to work in America for slave owners. It was horrible up until January 31st, 1865 when Abraham Lincoln got Congress to pass the 13th amendment of the United States of America. This amendment ended slavery in America. It also saved millions of slave’s lives. Freeing millions of slaves was one of his greatest accomplishments. Just this one

As a result of two documents, the Emancipation Proclamation and the Thirteenth amendment, President Lincoln was able to achieve this feat. “Lincoln noted the morality of his decision, writing that he believed emancipation to be "an act of justice, warranted by the Constitution, upon military necessity." The document had immediate practical benefits as well, as the British government backed away from recognizing the Confederacy soon after Lincoln issued the Proclamation” (Behrend). Clearly, freeing the slaves through the Emancipation Proclamation was the best course of action. Due to the bold declaration, Lincoln was made a statement of the Union’s power which deterred a powerful foreign entity from joining the war. Not only does the Constitution, which is the highest law in the land, justify Lincoln’s action, they were morally called for. If not for the Civil War, our nation would have continued to support a dark practice which enslaved fellow human beings. Along with achieving the goal of freeing slaves, the Emancipation prevented Britain from joining the war. This would have tipped the scale in favor of the South and could even jeopardize the nation’s freedom. The Thirteenth Amendment was also necessary to free all slaves. “This amendment abolished slavery and gave Congress the power to pass laws to enforce the abolition...The end of the Civil War and the…

Lincoln’s leadership during the Civil War led to Union victory. First, he ensured that the Border States, the states that were still on the edge, joined the Union by proclaiming that it was not a war to end slavery, but a war to save the Union. If he would not have gained these states, it is very likely that the Confederacy could have won the war. He also proclaimed war in such a way that he would gain support, not lose it. He sent supplies to Fort Sumter, only to provide for them, not to reinforce them. However, South Carolina troops attacked the fort, allowing Lincoln to declare war on the South and gained support from troops to regain control of military forts. Lincoln also extended his powers, because of the Supreme Court case which ruled that the president had more power during a time of war. He created the draft, forcing much needed…

Abraham Lincoln came from humble origins in the backwoods of Kentucky. He was born on February 12, 1809 in a one room log cabin on Sinking Spring Farm, in southeast Hardin county Kentucky. His father (Thomas Lincoln) was a poverty stricken frontiersman after losing his farm, which along with his wife (Nancy Hanks Lincoln) and other children had to work hard everyday for the necessities of life. Lincoln was no stranger to hard work; he split logs plowed his families land and used his carpentry skills around the farm. He did prefer reading and learning to the hard work which caused a strained relationship between he and his father. He only received 18 months of formal education and was largely self educated. In 1816 Lincoln’s father lost his farm and was forced to move to Perry County, Indiana. This area of the country near the Ohio River was very remote and rugged. Their first winter at the new homestead was very harsh but they were able to survive. Unfortunately that summer Lincoln’s mother died from a deadly disease known as “milk sickness” and left his father with the children to raise alone(Lincoln research project). After the death of his mother the family fell apart and the most of the day to day work was left to Lincoln and his sister. In the winter of 1819 Lincoln’s father went back to Kentucky and found a new wife Sarah Bush Johnson who was a widow with three children (notable biographies.com). His new mother was a very positive light placed in his life. She was very affectionate and treated both sets of children…
