Abortion Thesis Paper
In the year 2008 1.21 million innocent lives were lost. These lives were not lost due to disease, a natural disaster or worldwide epidemic but by choice. 23% of pregnant women will make the choice to end their pregnancy by having an abortion. By having an abortion a mother is choosing to end their own child’s life. The majority of society will agree that any kind of murder is inhumane so why is it that you can end the life of an unborn baby but it is against the law to take away the life of another human being?
If women are able to choose whether their unborn child lives or not then what is the difference between abortion and murder? Murder is the intentional death of another person and abortion is the deliberate termination of a pregnancy. Both are choices that human beings decide for one another. A baby does not choose to die and neither is a human being that is killed on purpose. A woman could kill a baby and be charged with murder but the very same woman could have an abortion and terminate their baby legally. Everyone deserves a chance at life even a baby at no fault that cannot make decisions for itself. Abortions are mainly performed during the first trimester of pregnancy. In the first trimester the eyes, mouth, throat and circulation take form only by the first month. With working organs, limbs, and a heart how is the death of an unborn child any different to the death of a human being? By the third month, the baby is fully formed with hands, feet, and ears, reproductive organs, with a working circulatory and urinary system. At this point the baby has a heartbeat that already began 5-7 weeks into the pregnancy. The resemblance of the fetus is very similar to a new born baby and has every right to live.
Approximately 3,700 abortions occur each day meaning 3,700 babies are terminated every 95 seconds. 98% of abortions are related to personal choices. Three out of four women that go through with abortions make their choice solely on the fact that having a baby would interfere with work and school ethics. Statistics show that three out of four women choose abortion because they cannot afford the child and one out of two women resort to abortion because they do not want to be a single parent. Whether it is because of work, financial or personal issues abortion is not the last resort. There are other options for a baby that is unwanted or that cannot be supported such as adoption. With women out there who cannot have babies and close to 1.5 million families out there willing to adopt, every baby should be given a chance. By giving the child up for adoption it is given a chance at a better life and is also a given blessing to families looking to adopt rather than being terminated with no chance to live at all.
No person should be given the right to take away a life of another with no given punishment while others are charged with death sentences or time in prison for the same intention. In the case of Roe vs. Wade, Jane Roe was a woman who decided that she did not want to follow through with her pregnancy and took on the state of Texas that also took her case all the way to the Supreme Court. In 1973 the Supreme Court made abortion legal with the only legal restrictions being that the operation had to be done during the first trimester. Recently a woman by the name of Katrina Effert strangled and kills her newborn baby but was freed by the pro-abortion law. By allowing this law people are finding their way through the cracks of the justice system and getting away with unlawful actions.
The government argues that a woman’s body is her own and that she should have control of it but when do these civil rights cross the line of another person’s privilege to live? Others will argue that since a fetus is not a baby until it is born then the act of abortion is not technically taking a life because the baby does not exist until it is of the mother’s womb. Another motive to have an abortion is getting pregnant from rape or incest. These types of cases are rare but less than 1% of women go through it every day of their lives.
Even though these arguments for abortion are true, the act is still intentionally taking away a life. Whether the fetus is not yet a baby, it is still in the process of becoming one and by stopping that process you are prohibiting that baby from living. Abortion punishes the child of rape or incest even though it has committed no crime. Rape is an act of violence against an innocent victim as well as abortion is against an innocent child. Under any circumstances, abortion is never okay when there are other options. A person should not be allowed to control the decision of whether another human being lives or not and abortion is no different from this. A murder is looked down upon in a moral society and abortions are a given right that can be done with no legal consequences. A death is a life lost forever and by supporting abortion you are supporting a person’s right to take away a life. However small the fetus is and whether it is considered a human being or not, that chance is eliminated by having an abortion. The baby has not been given a chance to live and no person should have the right to end that.

A baby heart forms and starts beating in the fifth week of pregnancy; therefore, that would make abortion murder. The baby that is growing inside of the woman is depending on her, so when she makes the choice to end that baby's life, they are making the choice to murder another person. The federal Unborn Victims of Violence Act, which was enacted "to protect unborn children from assault and murder," states that under federal law, anybody intentionally killing or attempting to kill an unborn child should "be punished for purposely killing or making an effort to kill a human being.” Abortion is immoral because it is the intentional killing of a human being. It is a well-known fact that life begins at the moment of conception. When we perform an abortion, we take the life of an innocent child. We deny the unborn child it’s right to live and experience the world. No one has the right to take the life of another person, even an unborn child. Abortion is murder because life begins at conception. All things that grow are living. Just because the living, growing fetus is not visible, does not mean that it is not a…

Having an abortion does not cause harm nor is it killing a person. So, is abortion really murder? When does a person become a person? Will you need a brain a heart and other working body parts? A fetus brain does not work while it is developing nor does its heart. Even we need our hearts to beat to be alive. The fetus does not feel pain while being aborted this is backed by science. The spinal cord and nerves are not developed to feel pain. 89-92% of all abortions happen during the first trimester, prior to the 13th week of pregnancy (CDC). 1.4% occurred after twenty-one weeks' of a pregnancy (CDC). The 1.4 that took place after the 21 week mark was because the fetus was fatal to mother if it was not removed. Embryos and fetuses are not independent beings. They cannot live on their own and are not self-sustaining. Birth days are counted from the day they take their first breath in this earth, not the time that a male and female conceive them. . The majority vote in favor in Roe v. Wade states that "the word 'person,' as used in the Fourteenth Amendment [of the US Constitution], does not include the…

Life starts when two reproductive cells unite. It is false to say that life begins when a baby is born. If they aren’t alive, then why do women kill them? Babies start as a tiny embryo, and they grow and grow. They are born, then they keep growing into an infant, and then a child, and then eventually an adult. The only difference between the embryo in the womb, and the adult lots and lots of nutrition and say 20 years time. “Abortion (is) murder (because) the being inside the mother is living. The definition of something living includes the ability to grow, which is exactly what is going on inside a woman who is pregnant. An abortion ceases the growing process, therefore ending the future life of a human being. This little being may not start off with a heartbeat or brain activity, but cells are still dividing and allowing it to grow.” (Ross,…

Abortion can be considered as murder, as the baby has a heartbeat and is a living creature. “At conception, we have a human organism, a human being. We do not have a baboon organism or a chimpanzee organism or an elephant organism” (Pasquini 5). This is killing an innocent living human without it having committed any crime. The idea of legalizing a process in which a baby has to pay for the mother’s mistake or be punished for simply being alive is one that is hard to fit into the mind of many. The baby shouldn’t be the one to be blamed for irresponsibility. Normally when a human life is taken from them, severe punishment is enforced and the result can even be death of the person who committed the murder. Abortion should be no different because the baby is as much as a human as anyone else on…

Few issues have embodied such controversy as abortion has. The various people involved in the abortion debate not only have strong beliefs, but each group has a self appeal that clearly reflects what they believe to be the essential issues. The abortion supporters see individual choice as central to the debate: If a woman cannot choose to terminate an unwanted pregnancy, a condition which affects her body and possibly her entire life, then she has lost one of her most basic human rights. These issues of abortion believe that while a fetus is a potential life, its life cannot be placed on the same level with that of a woman. On the other side, the anti-abortionist argue that the fetus is human and therefore given the same human rights as the mother. They believe that when a society legalizes abortion, it is sanctioning murder.…

Abortion is the termination of an unborn baby’s life, while in its mother’s womb. This could be done at different times of pregnancy, from the day after conception, to the day that the baby is expected. Whether they are the same or not is argued about by opposing stances on the subject. There are two opposite stances on abortion. These stances are pro-choice and pro-life. Pro-choice supporters think of abortion as neither good or bad, but as a choice. They believe that abortion is a useful tool to make life easier for mothers who do not want their children. The choice to have an abortion is usually based on egoism, which is doing what is best for one’s self. People who are pro-choice believe that an unborn baby is not really alive at all, and…
