Abortion: Pros and Cons
Abortion 1
Abortion: Pros and Cons Abortion means the termination of pregnancy before birth. Abortion results in the death of a fetus. Some abortions occur naturally because the mother has an injury or disorder that prevents her from carrying the pregnancy to the full nine months. Other pregnancies are terminated by choice, resulting in an abortion. Those pregnancies are induced, which is intentionally brought on, because a pregnancy is unwanted or is a risk to the mother’s health. Induced abortion is one of today’s most intense issues. Modern medical techniques have made induced abortions simpler and less dangerous. There are also preventions and ways not to get pregnant, so that abortion is not a choice that one has to make. At clinics where abortions are performed, the debate and confrontations sometimes become violent. In this essay, I will try to hit enough points to give a good view on abortion and the talk behind it. Abortion is a subject that is wide range and should be looked at in all aspects.
Procedures
There are many ways abortion can be performed. One popular way is the drug induced procedure. Drug induced abortions can be painful and dangerous. Mifeprostone, also known as RU-486, with a combination of misoprostal, given 48 hours later, causes the uterus to contract and expel the fetus. “There’s nothing new about the “new” “Morning After Pill,” (McGovern, 1999). As stated by McGovern (1999), doctors have given women fearing unwanted pregnancy concentrated birth control hormones within 72 hours of sex. RU-486 is not used as a preventive measure, only as a way out after the deed has been done. Another drug induced procedure is also a mixture of two different types of drugs. Misoprostal, with methotrexate, interferes with cell division and causes the uterus to contract and expel the fetus. Just like the first drug induced procedure, they both are used to cause the early termination of a pregnancy. These methods end

Medical abortion can be used to end a pregnancy in the first seven weeks of the pregnancy. Methotrexate or Milfepristone are the two drugs that can be used to induce a medical abortion. A methotrexate injection stops the division of fetal cells and the growth of the embryo. Mifepristone (RU-486) the abortion pill blocks the hormone progesterone that is necessary for the pregnancy to continue. After either drug takes effect, the pregnancy ends. Then Misoprostol is inserted into the vagina, causing the uterus to contract and expel the pregnancy. This occurs a few days after the administration of the drug. This process can take anywhere from three days to four weeks (Durrett 2000).…

The most common procedure is the vacuum aspiration involving anaesthesia. The cervix is gently dilated, which may cause a sensation similar to menstrual cramping, a narrow tube is inserted through the vagina and cervix to the uterus so then pregnancy and contents of the uterine internal lining are vacuumed out. The risks involved with this are side effects including nausea, cramping, sweating and feeling faint. Rare side effects are heavy or prolong bleeding, blood clots, damage to the cervix and perforation of the uterus. Infections can occur due to remaining tissue or due to an STD or bacteria that has been introduced into the uterus, these can cause fever, pain, abdominal tenderness and potential scar tissue. Dilation and extraction is another surgical procedure. This involves a luminaria to be inserted vaginally to dilate the cervix two days before the procedure. This causes the water to break on the third day. The fetus is rotated and forceps are used to grasp and pull the legs, shoulders and arms through the birth canal. A small incision is made at the base of the skull to allow a suction catheter inside. The catheter removes the cerebral material until the skull collapses. The fetus is then completely removed. The side effects are the same as dilation and evacuation. However, there is an increased chance of emotional problems from the reality of more advanced fatal…

Abortion can have traumatic effects on the paternal (father) parent as well as the maternal (mother) parent; both may develop emotional distress and disorders, including Posttraumatic Stress, Post Abortion Stress, relationship, and sexual dysfunctions. Pre-abortion counseling can reduce apprehension and embrace a more positive experience regarding the abortion decision. In this paper I will attempt to address these concerns and look at the history of abortion, the abortion process, the effects of abortion, legalization of abortion in America, how abortion affects the father, and if pre-abortion counseling affects the abortion decision.…

Abortion is a very controversial matter in our society. In the United States it is legal to abort a baby up until the day of birth. An abortion is the ending of pregnancy before birth which results in the death of an embryo or a fetus. Many people consider abortion as cruel as murder. Although some might say abortion is justifiable, others believe that no one but God has the right to take someone’s life. However, supporters of abortion do not consider an unborn child a person who must be protected. With an issue like abortion, there is a difficulty in determining if it is right or wrong. There are many sides and arguments to this matter and the media often portrays a very negative side to the choice of abortion. The media tends to be biased and against the issue of abortion. I believe that the media is very influential on our society today.…

The issue of abortion is one that has been at the recent forefront of many political discussions in the United States and around the world. There are people spread across both sides of the argument whose opinions vary in intensity and depend on different sources of information to back up their points of view. For the purpose of this paper, abortion will be defined as the deliberate termination of human pregnancy. It is my opinion that abortion, completed early enough in a pregnancy, is not an unethical act and should not be considered to be a decision that is immoral. My argument is based on ideas that are rooted in both utilitarian and deontological ethics as I will show throughout the essay.…

Marinelly Gonzalez Dr. Edwards Com 123 Cons of Abortion wrong and looked down upon by a lot of religions. Some women use abortion as a type of birth control. They sleep with men and do not use protection and think nothing of it to go to the clinic as many as five times in their life to have an abortion. A con against abortion is the nagging thought that a woman went to a clinic, had an abortion, and thus the world was prevented from seeing the birth of the only person capable of attaining a leadership role and initiating a peace accord between warring factions in the Middle East, thus preventing decades of strife and murder. A stable home life is not a guarantee of talent, and illegitimate children have shown themselves to be very bright on occasion. Another con, is that the child who never lived, may have invented a cure for cancer (had he lived). Think about that, if you’re for abortion, the next time you walk into a hospital to have a mysterious growth on your breast checked out. Having an abortion always lessens your chances for having children later in life. Even though it doesn't happen to many women, you could be the one to miss out on your once in a life time chance to have your baby. There are other options. You can give your baby up for adoption and give your child a chance at life. If looked at at the religious aspect, God gave you the opportunity to have a baby for a reason, you should not throw that chance away. If you laid down in the bed and weren't responsible, you should take responsibility for your actions and take care of the child you created. Abortion is the lazy way out. If you have an abortion you will always wonder what if, and feel guilty for the rest of your life about the child you could have had. Pros of Abortion Laws against abortion kill women. Even though abortion may be illegal doesn't mean that women won't go through with the abortion. Look at the case of Becky Bell for example. She was an innocent girl…
