Aaron Charles Rodgers was born in California on December 2nd, 1983. After he graduated high school, he attended Brutte College. A year after that he went to the University of California at Berkley. He was a football star for two years there before he was drafted by the Green Bay Packers in 2005. Football was always one of Rodger’s favorite things to do, especially at a young age. At the age of 2 Aaron was able to sit silently and watch and entire NFL game. By the time he was 5; he could pick out different football formations on the television and throw a football through a hanging tire. It also helped him become a Heisman finalist in 2004. In 2005 he quit before the beginning of his last year Berkley to enter the 2005 NFL draft. There he was one of the college football’s top prospects. He got plenty of football knowledge from his father, Ed Rodgers, who was an offensive lineman in college. His dad continued to play semipro ball after he graduated, then took his team, The Twin City Cougars, to the Semipro National Championship where they defeated a Wisconsin team. If you ask any of Aaron’s friends or family they tell you, “Aaron was a talented athlete with a strong arm and a good head on his shoulders.” While he was still in school he played just about every sport possible, including soccer basketball and baseball. But only one sport truly called out to him, and of course that was football. He inherited his father’s passion and competitiveness. In school, he would have no trouble telling other kids what to do. He was often scolded but his teachers for being too bossy.
Rodger’s enrolled at Pleasant Valley High school in 1998 where he immediately had his heart set on the varsity quarterback job for the school. His junior year, he took hold of the offense, passing for more than 2,000 yards. He later earned All-Section honors for his first 2 seasons. When his senior year came around, he threw for a school record of 2,303 yards. While

I began playing football when I was eight years old. From the moment, I first stepped on the field for practice I knew that I loved this game. I was a little four-foot-nothing kid tackling, blocking, and learning plays all while barely being able to see out of my helmet let alone over the other players. I was always the smallest player on the team and everyone called me “squirt.” What I didn’t have in size I made up for with my speed, determination and heart. Even though I was the smallest player on the team I was quick and strong enough to play quarterback on offense and cornerback on defense. Being the fastest player on the team, I could outrun every player at practice, run seventy five plays, and still be able to go home after practice and play more football.…

The Best Game Ever, by Mark Bowden, was a great book that talks about the 1958 NFL Championship game that helped transform the NFL into what it is today. It has exceeded all my expectations of the book and truly shows the impact this game had on the NFL. This was the first ever football game that was a national event, this was the first ever professional football teams viewed by millions. It would also be the first sudden death overtime game ever played in the NFL, Making the game that much more exciting. In 1958 Johnny Unitas, the Colt’s star quarterback and league’s Most Valuable Player award winner, was making $17,500 for the year, five years later Joe Namath would be earning $427,000 for the year, and this stat truly shows the impact this game had on the NFL. The game even had an impact on the author, he and every other kid in the world wanted Johnny Unitas’ high top cleats growing up, everyone wanted to be him. This was the beginning of athletes becoming celebrities in society. I was surprised to see that football wasn’t very popular back then, before this game football was a joke compared to our country’s pastime, baseball. Football is now easily the country’s most popular sport, organizations would grow to be more lucrative and be worth more than many small countries. I did expect the book to talk more about the actual game though, most of the book just talks about the teams and all the players on the team’s lives and what happened leading up to the game. Very little of the book is the actual game, there is also a good amount of the book talking about what happened to the players after the game, unfortunately, half of the players from that great 1958 Colt’s team are no longer around today. The players who are fortunate enough to still be alive today talk very fondly of the team and say it was the time of their lives. The author wrote the book to show others the transformation of the league and how it affected the nation, including himself. The…

Vince Lombardi is regarded as one of the most legendary and greatest coaches of all time. Not only did he create winning teams, his philosophy and motivational skills were key factors to his success as a high school, college, and professional football coach. Vince was Italian and grew up in Brooklyn. His father owned a meat shop, and he made sure that Vince was a responsible young man and had him do work for him when he was not in school. Much of Vince’s philosophy and discipline as a coach was learned from his father in his younger years. His father told him as a young man that “There was only one right and wrong, and he believed that you only did the right thing all the time” (O’Brien, 1987, p. 23). Vince began playing football at the age of 15 and later got a scholarship to play at Fordham University. Although he did not have much playing time at the beginning of his career because there were players who had priority over him and the fact that he incurred several injuries in college football. He was among the linemen that became known as the Seven Blocks of Granite in his later college years. Vince believed in winning, and did not ever take losing lightly. While he was in college, he did well, but not above average in academics. He was a devout Catholic, and he did spend many hours studying to improve his academic scores. After Fordham, Vince played on several semi-professional football teams, but his small stature did not prove him to be a successful football player in the pros. Afterward, he accepted a job as an assistant football coach at St. Cecilia High School in Englewood, New Jersey. This was the start of a long coaching career that would prove Vince Lombardi to be one of the greatest coaches in history.…
