Anosognosia is a condition where an individual has a disability and is unaware of it. Such as being unaware of their paralysis or blindness. Anosognosia is rooted in physiology, not just a defense mechanism. Ramachandran and colleagues found a connection between anosognosia and mirror neurons. What the scientists found, was that a man with a phantom hand could feel things being done to another individual hand by simple watching. They suggest this occurs because the mirror neurons are being activated but not the null signal which tells them it’s not really them experiencing the touch. So the mirror neuron activity was being experienced like a full blown conscious event. Awesome!…

; because in 2,500 births one person is affected by this disorder and with 50% affecting both hands (“Syndactyly”). The condition is stated to occur in isolation for no identifiable reason along with its’ inheritance. Some scientists have theories that the condition may be caused by a protein deficiency in the mother during pregnancy. There are some typical diseases that show a pattern of association with this malformation like Downs syndrome, hereditary Syndactyly and Crouzon’s disease (“Syndactyly”). There is a way that Syndactyly can be detected which is by prenatal ultrasound, although the accuracy of this method is not consistent. When a person has this malformation, the patients age and degree of the malformation will determine if the person will have a surgery to treat the abnormaility; all but the mildest cases are treated with surgery (Bae). When it comes to management of the Syndactyly condition is said to be low…

Although many strive to avoid it, people are running into contested space moments after they open their eyes each morning. We form these walls of contested space automatically, sometimes subconsciously which comes into play as we go about life. Contested space is a generally used term; that has a fairly vague definition. However, Mary Louise Pratt In her work: Arts Of The Contact Zone expresses it use well, stating: “ I use this term to refer to social spaces where cultures meet, clash, and grapple with each other, often in context of highly asymmetrical relations of power” I have personally identified contested space to be space where people or ideals collide resulting in place for each player within the situation. By viewing Monticello High School at three levels, landscape, space, and place, you can begin to break it down and see the many forms of contested space. Contested space can vary from a very physical sense, to a completely mental state, affecting how we go about life in very different ways. Monticello High School is the ideal environment for both forms of contested space.…
