A Hero's Journey
A Hero’s Journey is about a character who lives as an ordinary life then an event happen that makes the character leave his normal life and go into an adventure. According to the book “The Hero with a Thousand Faces” by Joseph Campbell. The hero must pass trial in his adventure. He or she must achieve his goal to get a reward or go back to his ordinary life. In the movie “Wanted” by Michael Brandt highlights the Hero’s journey because the hero got rid of his old life and goes on an adventure to avenge his father, but tricked by his own master. He was going to give up, but he remembered that he need to avenge his father. He was cut, bruised and even shot by his mentor, even though he was in pain he still persevered. Wesley finds out that his father was the assassin who tried to kill him, but he realize that he was protecting him at the first place. His mentor was a traitor and he tricked Wesley to killing his father. Now he plans to kill his master who tricked him (Bekmambetov). This shows that Westley is in The Road of Trials, he is seeing how hard the adventure is and makes him want to go back, according to Joseph Campbell in his book “The Hero with a Thousand Faces”. Wesley attach bombs into rats and dumped it in their base to distract and kill some assassins. He confronts Sloan, Wesley is surrounded by his men. Fox agrees on Wesley so she shoots around her killing his men and her. Sloan escaped, but at the end he still kills him from afar with a sniper. He has now avenge his father by killing Sloan (Bekmambetov). This ties in with what Joseph Campbell wrote in his book “The Hero with a Thousand Faces” the hero finishing his quest upon many trials and battling the “Dragon” and killing it.
