A Christmas Carol Movie Analysis

Compare and Contrast A Christmas Carol, both the play and the movie, have many similarities with just as many differences. Although the movie was created as a follow-up to the play, there were many times where the movie was completely different. On occasion, there would be times where you could follow along to the movie with the script, but most of the time, it would be somewhat the same.The script compared to the movie is more informing and fills in empty holes. Although watching the movie is easier, in order to get all of the facts straight, it would be better to read the script or see the play.

Much like the play, the movie shows that Scrooge is an old man who always frowns and has a hateful heart. Ebenezer Scrooge works at a bank like job, where he is not lenient on those who owe him money no matter the time of year. “They owe me money and I will collect. I’ll have them jailed, if I have to. They owe me money and I will collect what is due to me.” (Dickens 1) As you learn from the play, three ghost visit Scrooge overnight, The Ghost of Christmas Past, The Ghost of Christmas Present, and The Ghost of Christmas Present, and show him about his life in 3rd person view. Scrooge has a change of heart after being frightened at the place where Future had taken him, and he vows to become a different man. Both the movie and the play are acted by real people who are good at getting into character. When you are looking for similarities, you find that many things float to the surface that pertain to both the play and the …show more content…
One of the more obvious ones is in the movie, the characters will occasionally leave out lines or change the words, showing they didn’t completely follow the script. Another is that the play begins with Jacob Marley speaking to Scrooge, but the movie begins with Scrooge in his office at work. The movie shows a part where Scrooge is greedy and steals the coins for Marley’s deceased eyes, but that scene is never mentioned in the play. Scrooge and Fan are told to be younger in the theatrical performance, but are played by older characters in the movie. In the play, Scrooge’s nephew comes to visit Scrooge’s work and his name is never addresses, but he is called Fred at that time in the movie. The movie shows that Bob and Mrs. Cratchit have only 2 kids, but the play states they have more than that. Although only a few differences were listed, with more research you could find plenty
