For my Senior Project I have chosen to pursue a career in Law Enforcement; the specific career I have been researching is the position of Deputy Sheriff. The general duty of a Deputy is to assist the Sheriff, preserve the peace, prevent criminal acts, and arrest anyone who is in violation of the law meanwhile maintaining law in their county. I chose to pursue the career of Deputy Sheriff because I have always wanted to be a police officer; I look forward to taking on the power of the job, and the huge responsibilities that go along with it. However, I do not want to be forever contained to the level of County Law Enforcement.…

Law enforcement in the United States has numerous functions that vary. There are three basic levels of law enforcement, local, state, and federal. These organizations are set up to meet the public’s needs. They do collectively work together to achieve many duties. This common purpose is to protect citizens and enforce the laws passed by legislators at the local, state and federal level of government ("Ehow Money", 2013). Each level is appointed their own responsibilities and procedures. The functions of the organizations are actually very similar ("Term Paper Warehouse", 2012).…
Police officers risk their lives every day for the safety of their communities. Justice is what creates our criminal justice system to help combat crime. The definition of justice may have a lot to do with police operations, yet both have their own meanings and ways to come about. Police operations carry on many components such as, enforcing equal justice for all, implementing all laws and regulations and applying them to everyone, and accountability. With modernized policing comes more complex challenges for police operations in the future, the demand for police knowledge and education is higher along with technical police areas in the criminal justice system, which has created more of a challenge for many.…

Ryan Willis West Professor J. Paul Newman Discuss the function and structure of the three major components of the criminal justice system (law enforcement, courts and corrections). Law enforcement is the beginning component in the criminal justice system. The people involved in this component are as follows; patrol officers, deputies, sheriffs, federal agents, wild game rangers, park rangers, and last but not least detectives as well any other people that typically come in contact with criminals first. These people are accountable for maintaining the laws, looking into crime and arresting the criminals that are accountable for the crime. Enforcers of the law must be well educated of the person’s rights of supposed wrongdoer for example Miranda rights, search and seizure rights and rational stops to designate a few.…

Law enforcement agencies have different divisions that supervise a range of jurisdictions, all with the collective intent: to safeguard citizens and implement the laws passed by local, state, and federal agencies of the government. The difference between federal and local police jurisdiction is determined by which law has been violated. Depending on where you are at, and what you are doing, some different types of law enforcement agents may take an interest in your actions. If a federal crime involves federal law, federal authorities have jurisdiction. Federal police officers have jurisdiction over crimes that impact the nation. For instance, federal law enforcement is responsible for investigating crimes that involve international conflict or cross the border of states. Federal police officers are responsible of crimes such as kidnapping, treason, immigration, human trafficking, terrorism, and drug smuggling. If a local crime involves local laws, local authorities have jurisdiction. This can be somewhat difficult since some crimes may violate laws of both local and federal jurisdictions.…

The career I want to pursue deals with the prevention of crime. The Federal Bureau of Investigation is an organization that prevents crime all across the Unites states of America. Since I could remember I have always been into shows, books and anything related to the prevention of criminal activity. The two careers in the FBI that most interest me is Cybercrime agent and FBI agent. These two careers I find to be the interesting to me because of my abilities, interests, and skills. The FBI is the most sophisticated and well- known agency around the world. They have dealt with one…
Police, usually called law enforcement officers, apprehend criminals and investigate crimes. There are several other functions that the police perform. Local police have three main functions: maintaining order, controlling crime, and providing basic social services. Local police maintain order in different activities, such as traffic control in power outages, crowd control outside of a local football game, resolving domestic disputes, and removing drunken patrons from the streets. Police officers serve and protect. The main focus of maintaining order is keeping the peace rather than enforcing the law, so to speak. In different situations, officers may have to make an arrest to ensure the peace, but the appropriate order-maintenance solution often consists of less formal actions, like clearing crowds after a big game. Controlling crime is basically patrol and criminal investigation. Basic social service is calling police in an emergency situation. The majority of phone calls to the police are in need of social service as opposed to those relating to crimes.…
* Police officers work in partnership with the communities they serve to maintain law and order, protect members of the public and their property, prevent crime, reduce the fear of crime and improve the quality of life for all citizens. They use a wide range of technology to protect individuals, identify the perpetrators of crime and ensure successful prosecutions against those who break the law. Police officers work closely with members of the criminal justice system, social workers, schools, local businesses, health trusts, housing authorities, town planners and community groups to provide advice, education and assistance to those who wish to reduce crime or have been affected by crime. I chose to research this job because I like to help people and the best way I can imagine doing this is becoming a cop.…
