A Brief Look At Derek Jeter
“Now batting for the New York Yankees, the shortstop, number two, Derek Jeter.” The iconic voice of announcer Bob Sheppard brings about a loud roar from the crowd as The Captain walks onto the field, but now, gone. This story starts in Kalamazoo, Michigan where we meet an 11 year-old boy so passionate about achieving his goal to pursue baseball, and look where he is now. Derek Sanderson Jeter, a man who saw the world differently, was just a regular kid, but a regular kid with a dream and a hope. When Derek Jeter was 9, he stood in front of the class at St. Augustine Cathedral School and declared he would be playing for the New York Yankees, and wow, just look at where that attitude got him! That day he made his mark on time. Derek was born on June 26, 1974 in an “uncharted” and below the radar town in New Jersey called Pequannok. He spent almost all of his childhood in Kalamazoo, Michigan where he learned the fundamentals of baseball. Dorothy Jeter, an accountant, and Derek’s mother, was as solid as a rock, but aside from being a firm mother, Dorothy had a “special” kind of relationship with Derek. Whether it was on the baseball field, the basketball court, or even the classroom, Derek earned a reputation for being the hardest working at his school.
