9health Fair Reflection
On April 22, 2017, five classmates and I took part volunteering at the 9Health Fair. Before showing up we all were e-mailed instructions on the Health fair protocols for taking blood pressure (BP), performing Body Mass index (BMI) and pulse oximetry (02 sat). When arriving we all kind of gravitated to a station. I ended up working with Allie and Karen in the BP/02 sat Station. When the fair began, it seemed that we were pretty slow, so I volunteered to stand by the blood draw station informing patients where our BP/O2 Sat stations was located. Having worked for the NKF before and from classroom work I know that kidney disease is irreversible and early detection is important. This fair did not discriminate in any fashion, which is very important in reaching out to as many people as possible. Many of the fair event were free to include the kidney screening test. This helped to make this fair afforded and culturally sensitive to everyone. I learned from this fair that nurses can help their community by volunteering their time at fairs. That they can reach so many people at one time by just taking a BP, height and figuring out BMI. I hope to always want to help out at this fair, so I can continue to give to my community. I also learned about my value system during this fair. That it is very important to give accurately result and not fudge them. People lives depend on me to know what I am doing and I need to have integrity to always do the right thing with others are not looking. This fair is a rewarding fair to work out because you are constantly helping people and working on your learned schools. Nursing school has helped to strength my medical knowledge and I have been able to use this knowledge and skills helping people at this fair. Lastly, I found an article on the importance of taking
