8th Century Mahadev Kyunkaleshwar Temple In Maha Shiv Pari
Pauri is a small town surrounded by with pines and deodars jungle and attractive woodland walks and views of the Himalayas up on the ridges, including that of Nanda Devi.

These include the 8th Century Mahadev Kyunkaleshwar Temple (that includes a festival during Maha Shiv Ratri), the Kandoliya Devta and, within the town itself Messmore College, a cantonment. The combination of these cultural landmarks and the beautiful Dwarikhal forests and mountain views, suggest that some local ‘soft’ trekking or walking circuits could be organised, providing clearly marked walking trails and information boards. These could bring in more tourists to the area for which Pauri town itself could respond to by building more small hotels and guesthouses within

Above this intricate place of worship sits a massive round stone cap. The mast atop this capstone serves as an axis mundi in order to connect the earth to heaven. The Rajarajeshwara temple is another temple dedicated to Shiva. Today the temple still functions as a sacred place for followers of Hindu to worship. The Hindu temple was the first temple that are class attended. It was such a different atmosphere then the usual church setting I was accustom too. From every statue to every piece of clothing the Hindu temple was an incredible place to be in. It had a smoky scented smell in the room. The Gods had very colorful elaborate clothing on. The women would bring the clothing to make the gods look better than us humans. The only time the women would change the clothes would be before the festivals. The temple even had a bell in the middle that you would ring when entering so they would know your there. I recognized many different gods that we talked about in class. Lord Rama was to the left with his wife Cita and his brother Lakmasha, and then you had Lord Krishna to the right. The Hindu Priest was telling us that Rama was more about discipline and Lord Krishna taught how to mediate and taught the different principles. I also seen other gods such as Lord Laymi, the god of wealth, they had the nine planetary of astronomy, and I also identified Durga the mother God. One interesting thing I learned was when you wanted to get married, you would go to the Hindu Priest and he would look at the stars to see if you were going to be compatible. Another thing I learned was in the South of India they used black stone for their statue cause it was stronger, and in the north they use white stone.…

The main idol of Sri Venkateswara is said to be swayambhu or self-manifested, and in existence for more than 1700 years. Although there are no clear historical evidences, Thondaman or Thondaiman, the Pallava dynasty ruler of the ancient Thondai Mandalam or Thondainadu kingdom with his capital at the present-day Kanchipuram, just south-east of modern day Chennai, is believed to have first built the temple after visualizing Lord Vishnu in his dream. He built the gopuram and the prakaram, and arranged for regular worship to be conducted in the temple. Later on the Pallava kings and Chola dynasty (between 7th and 10th century CE) vastly improved the temple and gave rich endowments. Some of this information is found in ancient Tamil literary script…

Its magnificent temples, royal palaces, ancient markets, and pavilions making it a tourist’s delight, a pilgrim’s heaven and a backpacker’s paradise. These edifices are much vaunted for their large dimensions, florid ornamentation, bold and delicate carvings, stately pillars, magnificent pavilions and a vast array of iconographic and traditional depictions from the epics Ramayana and the Mahabharata. The largest existing temple is dedicated to Pampapati, and boasts a magnificent entrance tower constructed by Krishnadevaraya. The colossal statues of Lakshmi, Narasimha and Ganesha are noted for their mass, interwoven with graceful beauty. A distinct Vijayanagara style evolved over time, combining the distinctive architectural features of Chalukyan, Cholan, Hoysalan and Pandyan styles of architecture.
