8th Grade Promotion Speech
PROMOTION SPEECH 2013
Do you remember the first day of Middle School? When you stepped onto campus, and noticed how big this school was, looking for faces you recognized. And when you did, you ran up to them and talked to them like they were the most important person in the world, so you wouldn’t feel so awkward. You told them how nervous and happy you were. Here we are, three years later. Sitting in our dresses and whatever, knowing that in two months, we'll be doing the same thing at a different school. And if you look around in your seats, you'll notice that these are the people you've spent almost every day with, knowing that you wont be seeing all of the same faces next year. Faces that you may have just met this year. And faces that you will remember for the rest of your lives.
Middle school is over and we can move on to bigger and better things. Maybe not better, but definitely bigger. Can you believe it? Because I can't. We have spent almost the whole year thinking that this day would probably never come. But here it is. This is it, the day we aren't 8th graders anymore. But we'll still remember what happened here at this school. I know I will.
When you look at the future, where do you see yourself? Because we can't tell where we are going. Only that it's that way, and we can't go back. But we can look back. We'll still remember everything we did here. All the friends we've made, the things we've done. Everything. And we will carry all of that through our lives. We can look back on the days where we have just sat on the grass in the sun, talking to our friends. Having the strangest conversations that even today don’t make sense. Three years we've spent at the same school, walking the same halls. Three years worth of new friends, new faces, and new people. New people that have become my best friends. And with those people we have had experiences that we will never forget. We will remember all the places we’ve sat at and the conversations we've had there. We will remember all the disagreements we've had, and all the friends we've made.
With every person I've met, and every experience I've had here at Hart, it makes me realize what is coming. We'll see our friends go off to different schools. We'll make different choices with what we want to do with our lives, and that'll take us down different paths then our friends. All these memories, and we'll miss them, even if not all of them were perfect. But we've changed because of them, and most, if not all of us have.
We're going to high school. Already. Just thinking about high school makes me excited. Most of us will go to Foothill or Amador. All the things we'll do, and everyone we'll meet. It's just, exciting. Next year will be a change that most of us are looking forward to, but we will all remember what we’ve had; an amazing experience in middle school, with new bright friends, and memories that will never be forgotten. In the next four years, we will be learning about ourselves and becoming adults. I hope the things we've done together until now will help to get us there successfully. As we move through the next few years our experiences today will be our memories of tommorow. There are great things coming, and just as your parents are proud, each one of you should feel proud of yourself.
So congratulations to all of the graduates, congratulations to the parents, and finally, congrats to the teachers and everyone else who helped us through the past three years. I'll leave you with this final quote, from a great author with whom I imagine you are all familar, by the name of Dr. Seuss. "You have brains in your head. You have feet in your shoes. You can steer yourself in any direction you choose. You're on your own. And you know what you know. You are the guy who'll decide where to go." Congratulations again, and thank you for your attention.

Three years ago we all walked in here with the same mindset, were in middle school! As sixth graders we were all scared eighth graders would shove us in lockers, just like in the movies. But middle school really isn't like that were friends with different people and younger ones and ones we never pictured being friends with as sixth graders. Most of our friends aren't the ones we grew up with in elementary school, but that made us realize who true friends really are. Throughout our middle school years, there were ups and downs of every situation but our teachers, parents, guidance counselor and friends stood by our sides through it all. Saying goodbye will be hard, we will all miss each other even though we might not think so. Our teacher…

We are constantly going through things that changes us, big and small changes, everything we do makes a difference in our life. Some more than others. Thinking of what has brought the most historical significance in my life is easy, and never did I imagine this could very well shape the rest of my life. Throughout my senior year of high school, these kids had more of an impact on me, than all 3 previous years combined. They were loving, inviting, and honestly sometimes a pain in the butt, even through the bad stuff, they’ve taught me more than they could ever know. I will always be appreciative for how they have shaped me throughout my senior year.…

At some point and time in life, everybody has an epiphany. I like to call epiphanies “aha” moments or a moment when you figure something out and it changes your life and the way you view things. I am sure over the years, I have had plenty of epiphanies, like discovering my fingers and toes as a baby or learning how to ride a bike, but the only epiphany that sticks with me is the one that I had the summer before my senior year of high school. When I was little the future was so far away. I did not really care about what I wanted to be when I grew up.…

When I first came to this school, I was in second grade. I can’t believe I was at this school for 6 years. I can’t believe i’ve been here for about 6 years. I never thought I would be in Atwater for this long, since before my family moved. From house to house and I going from school to school. Throughout the years at Bellevue I didn’t have a tough time making friends, but the hard thing was watching them move away. Well some of them. The good thing is I still have those friends today, the ones I met through out 2-8. It’s also tough to see that most of the teachers I had are no longer at Bellevue or even not remember me at all. I loved all my years here, but I really loved this year. I believe that 8th grade is going to be one of the best school…

It’s been about two months since school has started, since middle school has started. I’ve finally gotten used to my schedule and the atmosphere of the school. At times I feel as if school has just begun and summer was yesterday. Sometimes in the hallways, I think of my elementary school friend and what they think of middle school. I made my way through the crowded hallways. Complete chaos. People were everywhere; pushing, pulling and shoving. All trying to get out. Students flooded the hallways, like a dam that just broke. People gathered in groups around lockers, waiting for friends and saying their goodbyes.…

Change can be difficult part of a person’s life, oftentimes quite harrowing. Some may find change to be a good thing. I, on the other hand, find it to be more than former. This great change in my life was when my family was forced to move to a new city when I was fourteen. Not only, was I facing a great change, but it would be a change that would affect me for the rest of my life. When I found out that we were moving, I was frightened. I was going to lose all of my friends. I was going to have to start over. That was scary. Being the new kid in school is awful and upsetting, and I was not looking forward to that at all. Already being a shy person who has trouble connecting with new people, being forced to start at a new school was absolutely terrifying.…

My dear students, teachers play an important role in nation building. They contribute to the development of human capital by equipping you with professional acumen and technological ingenuity which are the key ingredients for making our nation a developed country by year 2020. Teachers are also the engineers of human souls. They teach you right from wrong through the inculcation of noble values in your lives. They are as loving and caring as your parents. Their ultimate goal in life is to nurture you into physically, emotionally, intellectually and spiritually balanced beings. In their eyes, you are unique in your own right. My dear teachers, kudos to you for educating the students with dedication. Through your tireless effort, they not only acquire the wisdom of knowledge but also become more wholesome in character. As I scroll through the unknown hallways of high school for the first time, anxious and worried of the unexpected I was about to anticipate, my palms start the tip of shaking heavily and sweating uncontrollably. Thinking to it, I knew it was a start, a new start of life as a beginning, new chapter of not just believing in finding myself, challenging more to my limitations, setting high bars, letting myself free to the world of judgements and doubts of others around me, and showing my heart to the world in the creation I knew was forming “my future” already. As in the future I knew would be the outcome of the things that I’d chosen to follow or present of today, I knew I would want to become and be the things that I desired or worked for.…

On different dates in 1992 we were born none of us new we would be sitting here with the people we are today, neither did our parents, God has already made a plan for us, making our paths cross at different points, almost like we were all destined to be sitting here. Making memories and friendships in school as our walls and then tearing down those walls that have taken so long to build when we have to leave our home, school. The following is an excerpt from a speech President Lincoln gave "No one, not in my situation, can appreciate my feelings of sadness at this parting. To this place, and the kindness of these people, I owe everything. Here I have lived a quarter of a century, and have passed from young to an old man. Here my children have been born and one is buried. I now leave, not knowing when or whether ever I may return, with a task before me greater than that which rested upon Washington. Without the assistance of the Divine being whoever attended him, I cannot succeed. With that assistance, I cannot fail. Trusting in Him who can go with me, and remain with you, and be everywhere for good, let us confidently hope that all will be bell. To His care commending you, as I hope in your prayers you will commend me, I bid you an affectionate farewell." This speech is one of the most perfect examples of what it is like to be leaving somewhere where all your memories friendships and goals have been made. School, where we have made our futures blossom and open up into more opportunities and privileges is the place we are leaving where we made our first best friends the place where all our memories have been shared and made, its difficult but we do move on. I think of these school walls as a giant photo album each of us filling a page with pictures and drawings of the way we were ten years ago as kindergartens learning to cut and glue, write our names and draw all the way up to our older years as grade eights clanning in…

Most of our life is a series of images. They pass us by like towns on the highway. But sometimes, a moment stuns us as it happens. And we know that this instant is more than a fleeting image. We know that this moment… every part of it… will live on forever .The important thing is not to be bitter over life’s disappointments. Learn to let go of the past, and recognize that every day won’t be sunny. And when you find yourself lost in the darkness of despair remember, it’s only in the black of night that you see the stars, and those stars lead you back home.“So don’t be afraid to make mistakes, to stumble and fall, because most of the time the greatest rewards come from doing the things that scare you the most. Maybe you’ll get everything you wish for. Maybe you’ll get more than you ever could have imagined. Who knows where life will take you. The road is long and in the end, the journey is the destination.…
