Without sleep, we will fall apart. Sleep deprivation affects you in many different ways such as, impairing reflexes, judgment, motivation, healing, and attention. Sleep deprivation affects anyone but it can take an even greater toll on an athlete. McCarthy says “Chronic sleep deprivation can slow reaction times nearly a tenfold, which is devastating for a hitting who has just .25 seconds to decide whether to swing at a Major League fastball” (p. 50). Strong reaction time and judgement is obviously quite necessary for a Major League Baseball player. They will not be able to have a strong judgement or reaction time if they are low on sleep. This ties in with another interesting fact in this article. McCarthy writes “Out research shows that sleepy players don’t tend to stay in major league baseball as long as well-rested players” (p. 50). We are then informed that we need sleep to do all kinds of things such as produce growth hormones, fight off infections, and heal. To be a successful Major League Baseball player, you would need to be able to do all of those things. Fatigue will impair your judgement. Having good judgement is also beneficial to being a successful Major League Baseball player. It now makes sense that sleepy players are more likely to stay in Major League Baseball for a shorter amount of time than well-rested…

30 Spots – We will have three 30 spots throughout the summer. The reason for the name “30 spots” is that we only reserve thirty spots to take students and the cost is only 30 dollars. The goal of this is to allow us as a staff to spend as much time with the students as possible. With or without the average amount of sleep needed, it plays a crucial piece in a person’s daily life, impacting their performance and deciding their sleep rhythm. This can be seen in the book, Encyclopedia of Sleep and Dreaming, where it begins to explain how the effects of a full night’s sleep and an all nighter would help a student perform differently; while studying all night is good for immediate memory, those memories would soon be forgotten. However, a full night of rest would allow for permanent memories and an increase in your mental capacity for your learning material. (Carskadon 25). In addition, because all nighters are good for immediate memory, they are good for tests that require memory only ,however a full night of rest would be more beneficial for tests using combination and imagination because it affects one’s creative and spontaneous actions (Carskadon 26). While many students pull all nighters, most of the time it will be unbeneficial to the student because a large amount of the info retained late at night will be forgotten, affecting their performance on the test either way by the lack of sleep or by the reduced amount of time to study. Many students affected by sleep deprivation will also be affected in their daily life which could be seen in a student dozing during class time. If a student begins to doze during class, this would then lead…

Research has demonstrated that the normal teenager’s bedtime to fall asleep would be 11pm or later, because of this change in their internal clocks teens may be wide awake laying in bed even when they are extremely tired. All my life I have searched for outdoor profession involving human remains and settlements that could satisfy my curiosity. Then, I met a person that is so dedicated to such a profession that I had no knowledge about. As to knowing her since I have been under her wing for two years, I could say that she is a very skillful person in the field of archaeology. Her name is Jolie Liston, from Texas, a 7th generation Texan. All her life since age 23, has been doing archaeology because she loved doing outside work. Now age 53 and has achieved her Ph.D. on this type of field (Liston2/7/13,Liston2/12/13). With the 2 years of work and training with her, I finally made a hard decision because I had two choices, be in the military or outdoor profession which I wanted. With all her lectures and teachings about archaeological dig and investigating past histories, my interest grew more and captured me right there. I would say that Jolie is nothing compared to others out there. There are great accomplishments that she accomplished in Palau before she left the island. All based on her discoveries on field were publicized and taught to the people, also helped with preserving some of the very old cultural sites. With the archaeology skill she possesses, I have been inspired to walk the same path and start out by going to higher education to pursue a future field goal.…

One way exercise benefits us is how it can positively impact our sleep. As you exercise more, you might find that you are able to sleep better. If we are using more energy throughout our day by working out, it makes sense as to why this is. We will have less energy by the end of the day and be able to sleep better and fall asleep more swiftly. Personally, I think how well I sleep has been the greatest difference. Sleep benefits are just one perk of exercise, another is how people might look at us differently.…
