4-Ylmethylethylation Lab Report
Results and Discussion: A reaction involving two bond formation was employed for the preparation of 3,5-disubstituted 1,2,4-triazole as nucleobase analog. The hydrazides 2a,b were allowed to react with the heteroaryl substituted acetonitrile derivatives 1a-c using catalytic amount of K2CO3 and n-butanol as a solvent to afford the disubstituted 1,2,4-triazoles 3-7 bearing benzothiazole, benzotriazole, quinoloxymethyl and benziimidazole ring systems in moderate yields. The structures of compounds 3-7 were confirmed by their spectral data. Their IR spectra revealed the disappearance of the characteristic hydrazide carbonyl and cyano absorption bands. The 1H NMR spectra showed signals corresponding to the two methylene protons in addition to the aryl and NH proton of the 1,2,4-triazole ring. …show more content…
The Infra-Red spectra showed the carbonyl of the acetyl groups in addition to the disappearance of the NH band. Their 1H NMR spectra showed the acetyl methyl signals, the sugar protons signals and the aromatic signals. The coupling constant value of the anomeric protons 9.8-10.2 Hz indicated that attachment of the sugar moiety is in the beta conformation leading to the formation of the

In order to first perform the reaction, 1.5 mL of 4-methylcyclohexanol was added to a pre-weighed 5mL conical vial. The conical vial was then weighed to find the actual mass of 4-methylcycloheaxanol. Then, 0.4mL of 85% phosphoric acid was added to the conical vial using a plastic pipet. Six drops of concentrated sulfuric acid was then added to the vial using a glass pipet. A spin vane was then added before adding the Hickman head, water condenser and a drying tube packed with calcium chloride to the conical vial.…

In the lab, Bromide was combined with trans-cinnamic acid in order to see if the resulting product at the end of the experiment would yield either an erythro- or threo-dibromide. Based on how well this experiment was done there is a possible product that would have a melting point around 95°C, threo-, 205°C, erythro-, or somewhere in the middle which would be a combination of the two. The process of refluxing was used to purify the mixture followed by crystallization. In the end, the product that was yielded had a melting range of 188.4°C-190.1°C, which shows that the product was mainly comprised of erythro-dibromide.…

What are the factors that lead to evolutionary change? Using mathematical equations, Hardy & Weinberg in the early 20th century showed that evolutionary change – measured as changes in allele frequencies in a population from one generation to the next – will not occur unless certain kinds of “evolutionary agents” are affecting the population. The Hardy-Weinberg equation can be used to describe the allele frequencies in populations that are not changing evolutionarily – and also can be used to determine if populations are changing over time.…
