INTRODUCTION

The 3M Company, formerly known as the Minnesota Mining and Manufacturing Company, is an American multinational conglomerate corporation based in St. Paul, Minnesota. 3M headquarters are in the St. Paul suburb of Maplewood, Minnesota.
Five businessmen founded 3M in Two Harbors, Minnesota, in 1902. Originally a mining venture, the goal was to mine corundum, but this failed because the mine 's mineral holdings were anorthosite, which had no commercial value. During the 1950s, the company expanded worldwide with operations in Canada, Mexico, France, Germany, Australia, and the United Kingdom in large part by Clarence Sampair. In 1951, international sales were approximately $20 million. 3M’s achievements were recognized by the American Institute of Management naming the company “one of the five best-managed companies in the United States" and included it among the top 12 growth stocks (3M).
3M’s investment in communities, where the company operates, reflects the philosophy and practice of our governing principles since 1908. Messrs. William L. McKnight and Archibald Bush, early 3M leaders, understood the importance of community vitality to business success. Community engagement was encouraged at all levels of the company. Junior Achievement was 3M’s first volunteer program and dates back to 1949. To formalize 3M corporate philanthropy, the 3M Foundation was established in 1953, during the same year of the formation of the respective McKnight and Bush Foundations.
Since 1953, 3M and the 3M Foundation, coming together under the banner of 3Mgives, have invested $1.3 billion in cash and product in 3M communities around the world. Today, Belgium, Spain, Italy and Brazil maintain their own foundations and all other international subsidiaries manage corporate giving

McGinty is focused on getting their idea of quality education out in the public, but if they lack the adequate funding needed to give to the schools teacher, they should look to making partnerships with others so as to still help their customers. Over the next three years, the Foundation should reach out to two potential partnerships in order to help as many people as possible. By finding other foundations, not only will they be able to give more grants, but they will also spread their message to similar organizations who may not have initially had those beliefs. We feel the best way for the foundation to both realize their mission and obtain meaningful donations is through promoting their idea as much as possible. There are numerous ways for the foundation to achieve this promotion. One way to achieve this would be through holding dinners, banquets and other similar events, and inviting as many potential recipients as possible. This way, not only will target corporations be aware of the motivating mission of the McGinty Foundation, but they will also feel obligated to apply, as the Foundation is providing a free service for educational representatives. Although this will result in some short term costs, it will also help achieve the…

Beginning with McKenna Machine Co., it was founded in the early 1900’s when there was consolidation of small local machine shops. There were four local machine shops that merged to form an industrial machine parts manufacturing corporation. McKenna Machine Co. was a family run business with a management team that consisted of mostly older executives. Most of these top executives held positions with McKenna for over 20 years. At the time of acquisition, they had revenue of $600 million and net profit of $12 million. They also held a market share of 40-60%. This positioned them as the market leader. However, the budget for the machine division has become static and new financial requirements needed to increase production quality have not been received since its last investment in the 1970s.…
