The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee The concept of the spelling bee arose in the 1700s among the Puritans and they called these contests “Spelling Schools.” Theatre has been around for a very long time. It first started out where only men were allowed to preform, now, today anyone can perform no matter their skin, race, or ethnicity. The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee is what modern theatre is today. Actors singing, dancing and engaging with the audience. My overall experience at this play was excellent, I was thoroughly entertained throughout the whole production. Winner of the Tony and the Drama Desk Awards, The 25th Annual Putnam Spelling Bee was created in 2005 by Rebecca Feldman and the music and lyrics were done by William Finn. This play compares to a lot of plays of this time, it is fast paced, full of energy and extremely humorous. The show is centered on a spelling bee in Putnam Valley Middle School, where six goofy teenagers compete against each other. The spelling bee is hosted by three quirky adults who also take part in the sining and dancing, they even do some spelling themselves. The main characters include Rona Lisa Peretti who is a former champion herself who moderates the spelling bee, Vice Principal Douglas Panch who is a judge who returns to the spelling bee after a former incident. There’s also Mitch Mahoney who is the comfort counselor who is also an ex-convict, Olive Ostrovsky is a new to the Putnam Bee and she 's known for not paying the twenty five dollar entrance fee. William Barfée a returning finalist who spells the words out with his feet before speaking them, Logainne "Schwarzy" SchwarzandGrubenierre is known for having two gay fathers and speaks with a lisp. Marcy Park is known as the overachiever who speaks six languages, Leaf Coneybear only gets to the competition because the person who beat him in the district bee had to be somewhere

People were dissolving treaties and fighting and the united states could not remain neutral if they hoped to avoid losing their allies. I thought the actors were chosen wisely for the production because I felt the actors were really into their character. Like the actor who played Rona Lisa Perretti was truly into the play so she was truly into character. All the actors were so into character that you could truly believe that it was a real spelling bee. They took people from the audience to play spellers one of the people was Liz Harris she actually spelled so many words right that they had to make a word up so they could kick her off before intermission.…

On the 3 November 2012, my classmates and I were to attend a music dance concert in the Feddersen Recital Hall in Mount San Antonio College. we were being seat in the circle, where I can observed most things from the floor above. The hall is quite a small grand but in simple and elegant way, and with simple lighting. I love it although it is not as large-scale as others performance at Los Angeles downtown. Before the performance begins, there was whispered in the hall as the spectators were discussing what to anticipate from this dance concert and most of them dress in semi formal. As for the performers, they carefully and delicately tune their instruments to the precise pitch and their dressing and preparing for this performance.…

Creating Musical Theater is a collection of interviews that the author, Lyn Cramer- a professor of Musical Theater Dance at The University of Oklahoma, conducted with directors and choreographers that make up today’s Broadway elite. For a student who have not had much chance to get to know and understand musical theater, this book is a great exposure to both the Broadway stages and the behind-the-scene actions. In this short review, I would like to narrow my experience of this book into two directors/ choreographers interviewed in the book that influenced me the most: Jerry Mitchell and Sergio Trujillo.…

Racial discrimination issue is an obstacle that happens not only in the past but also today, and people, victims of this issue, might find an effective way to go on living. As Akeelah’s story, a black girl in economically poor community in South LA, “studying like genius” seems to be used for white people. Therefore, she comes up with confidence and ability of good spelling words is not only a big concern in black community but also the change of overall people’s perspective. In fact, she has a hard time to demonstrate that what she gets to fight against the racial discrimination. Otherwise, she bets on her practices that she is possibly a winner, and she gets succeed in the end of the Spelling Bee. Similarly, Jackson, a boy in “Waiting in Line at the Drugstore”, is afraid of the drugstore because discrimination out there makes him in uncomfortable mood. I had worked my way into the theatre world through friends. I determined that I would forever be a wispy little stagehand, forever destined to repair costumes and restock the pancake makeup hidden behind a heavy fire curtain and the absence of house lights. I was involved in theatre, but not in an obvious kind of way. One day, I needed to discuss the fabric of a main character’s costume with the director, so I shakily trudged my way up into the upperclassmen wing to go to his classroom. Then, on the ancient cork call board was a minimalistic poster advertising the wondrous world of speech, which shouted of enrollment into the prestigious honor society that is the National Speech and Debate Association, as well as how fondly colleges looked on public speakers. Now, I’m not sure if that’s true, but because of speech, I am…
