On the fateful day in November the “symbol” of communism, the Berlin Wall, was tore down by both the West in East Germans. This act signified the culminating point of the Revolutionary changes sweeping Europe, and the eventual fall of the Soviet Union and most Communism as people. Throughout the Soviet era, the side of West Germany was under harsh Communist rule. This breaking down of the wall had such a greater meaning, it was the birth of freedom to all those currently oppressed. Document 10, written by Heinrich Mann, describes the spirits of the German People. He says that their spirits are so worn down because of the conditions that they don’t really care about a democracy anymore because they are so tired and worn down. If no one cares about the democracy than no one is supporting it and that creates instability. Document 3 where a major communist leader calls the Weimar Republic "bloody class terror of the bourgeoisie." Though she is a communist and has very extreme views other in Germany may have had these views of the bourgeoisie as well, such as the lower classes because of their miserable conditions. Clara Zetkin, who was a Communist, has these views and is writing this editorial because she has communist views and believes in a communist state. She would not want a new democracy in Germany; she would want a Communist state. In Document 5 an artist shows how working class misery had the people "arising in armed revolution”. A revolution of the lower class is exactly how the communist believed a Communist state would eventually come to power. Both the picture and the editorial are offering those in the lower classes a view of the world if the communists came to power. Because of the misery of the lower class at the time people did not like the democracy and instead favored the equality and better life of a Nazi ruled Germany…

The Berlin Wall, three words which bring to mind some of the most turbulent and confusing years twentieth century Germany had ever seen. Often, when discussing this topic, most of the focus mainly surrounds the construction and destruction of this great barrier. Although these topics will be discussed at length, the reasons for its construction and later destruction began long before any sign of an official barrier made an appearance.…

Regan addresses this speech to the Soviet General Secretary Mikhail Gorbachev. In explaining and persuading to Gorbachev that there is only one Berlin and not two. There shouldn’t be a wall or a border to divide the west and the east of Berlin. Regan believed the wall was a symbol of control and the freedom that everyone should have was being taken away as the separation between the East and the West. There should only be one Berlin, as Regan said, meaning there should not be a division.…

He warmingly starts off by thanking some former presidents, “President Carter, President Clinton, President Bush, President Obama....”, the American people especially, and everyone around the world for his election win. His voice is very direct and to the point when he states how he would approach the nation as a whole: “We, the citizens of America, are now joined in a great national effort to rebuild our country and to restore it's promise for all of our people”. The formal tone allowed a flow through his speech that showed his thoughts clearly and straightforwardly. The short pauses created tension and a sense of understanding between President Trump and his audience. Much of his…

Source 2 is an extract from the Iron Curtain Speech from Churchill given by him in the US to the American people including President Truman in March 1946. The content was basically him warning them for the aggressive Soviet expansion as much of the people still believed the Soviet Union to be an ally after defeating Nazi-Germany together. He said the following “(…) an Iron Curtain has descended across the Continent [Europe]. Behind the line lie all the capitals of the ancient states of the ancient states of Central and Eastern Europe.” He believes that what the Soviets are doing at that moment divides Europe in to spheres, and wants to convince the Americans that they have to stop them. Source 3 itself is an extract from Stalin’s interview that was a response to the Iron Curtain Speech. It was published in the controversial [It was controlled by the Soviet government. So it would never be critical about the government and not objective at all. You could say the government used this newspaper to bring out political news and propaganda.] Soviet newspaper, Pravda. It was a very reliable source for official government views, but the content never stated something critical of the Soviet government. Stalin said the following “Mr Churchill now stands as a firebrand of war.” The Iron Curtain Speech made him believe Churchill was plotting with the Americans against the Soviet Union and implies that Churchill would be responsible if it came to a war. They are both valuable in this aspect, but Churchill was negative of the Soviet Union in his words, while Stalin somewhat explained what and why the Soviet Union did what they…

    Hitler And Röhm Analysis

I am solemnly nauseous from having to hear another two words of the “Heil Hitler” and the Horst Wessel song that painfully drill through my ears. It is also necessary to comment on the death of Ernst Röhm, the SA leader, who has been ironically murdered by his own comrade, Adolf Hitler. Ever since Hitler became chancellor, the days for us communist had been the darkest. The burning of the Reichstag building on February also marked the horrendous captures for members of the Communist Party of Germany (KPD). I would have been spared spending nine months in the dreary concentration camp of Dachau, if only I had been more passive. Yet, as part of the KPD, I felt that I had a duty to uphold and the continual urge to devote to Marxism.…

    Stalinism Vs Communism

This chapter discussed why capitalism was more successful than communism. As leaders changed in the Soviet Union, each had different ideas and goals for their country, but each one was determined to prove that communism was better capitalism. The differences were obvious with the leaders who did or did not believe in Stalinism. They were also often influenced by Marxism, Leninism, and/or other communist countries (such as China). However, capitalists (mainly from America) were better at reacting to spontaneity and learning from history (Revolutionary War, Civil War, etc.) than communists of the Soviet Union. East Germany instilled fear in its residents, while West Germany provided hope for a better life. Because of this, many people living…
