16th Street Baptist Church by: Reece Baxter On September fifteenth 1963, at 10:22 A.M, Sunday school was being held at at a local Birmingham church. The address was 16th street Sunday school was being held there. Over two-hundred members were attending this event, and many threats were said before the bombing. This is where most civil rights meetings were being held at the time. The Sunday service started at eleven o’clock that morning. The bomb was placed at the east side of the church. When the bomb detonated it left rubble and brick all over the church, or what was left of it. The walls were caving in the building and most parishioners were able to clear the building filled to the brim with smoke. To find in the restrooms of the church 4 little innocent girls under rubble in the basement bathroom. Ten-year-old Sarah Collins, who was also in the restroom at the time of the explosion, lost her right eye, and more than 20 people were injured.If you have seen what the church,you would know the pain me we feel.

Martin Luther King Jr. spoke at the eulogy three days later for three of the girls, Denise, Cynthia and Addie Mae. Carole had a separate funeral. Martin states: “ They died so freedom might live..” Her( Addie Mae Collins) tombstone has these words engraved on it. Carole had a separate funeral that was private on September 17th. Carole’s mother was distressed at the comment Martin Luther made said that had allowed the murder of the four girls was the "apathy and complacency" of black people in Alabama.The service for Carole Rosamond Robertson was held at St. John's African Methodist Episcopal Church. In attendance were 1,600
